I think attending a Disney on Ice show is something every child should do at least once in their life.

Treasure Trove opened with the Incredibles getting the kids up and out of their seats, for a bit of stretching and movement- to some 80’s rock music, which is always amusing to me. As the skaters and kids bopped to “We got the Beat” and “Pump Up the Jam”, it hopefully got some of the wiggles out and got them ready to sit still for a bit. As the Incredibles made their exit, Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy entered front and center to the delight of the kids.

pic 1Mickey and his buddies gave a short introduction to the show, and to the opening act- Alice in Wonderland. It’s not often that Alice makes an appearance, so we liked seeing her. There was of course, a “Mad” tea party, which was interrupted by some card soldiers and an every-petulant queen of hearts. We all enjoyed this act, the card soldiers spun about the ice, did some fun and military-looking marches/dances and the queen carried her well known pink-flamingo croquet mallet while chasing Alice and the poor White Rabbit about. Some “odd ticking” Alice noticed brought out the next act, Peter Pan (OK, the transitions were always a little…forced? But the kids don’t care or notice, and what kind of grown up goes to these for a theatrical experience? LOL Also, of course, most of the show is a mash-up of sorts of other Disney “on ice” shows, but the kids never notice or get tired of it- it is ALWAYS a treat and they love it every time. They just freshen up and mix them up, add the newest characters, and voila! Happy kids.)

Peter Pan was a fun act to watch- my favorite was the small Croc who slithers in on his belly ( a person in costume, pushing on knuckles and feet) that sneaks up on Hook and scares him- my son likes BIG CROC who eats Hook at the end of the act. Of course, there are adorable lost boys, Wendy tries to civilize them, and Hook and his band of pirates kidnap the bunch of them. Tinkerbell swoops in (the kids love it when Pan and Tink “really fly”!) to help Peter save them all. Peter Pan was very energetic and fun to watch, and the lost boys act was also entertaining- they danced/skated to “Following the Leader”, which is a classic song from the movie.

Next up was both of our favorites- The Lion King. The act follows the storyline of the movie- Scar was enjoyable to watch, I loved his movement and the way the mane of the costume moved. Nala and Simba were also very good skaters, and we would have loved to see them more then just the few minutes they danced together. They were the best in the show in my opinion, lovey to watch. The stampede was interesting- each skater was 3 beasts- on on the head, one on each arm, all moving to create the stampede. Very creative and visually interesting. All of the animals were very well done for The Lion King act.

1 06 13 078Those were our 3 favorites- also the first 3 acts of the show. In my opinion, the first act was better then the second, which was just one song per princess- and seemed like they were trying to get as many princesses in as possible for the show. There is something to that, but I like the longer acts with more to them- a storyline. The show also included a full act of Aladdin (which was also great- Genie was very high energy, flipping around and featuring Abu as an elephant and a flying magic carpet) and Snow White, as well as one song each for Rapunzel, Ariel, Tiana, and the whole cast recaps the song “Someday My Prince Will Come” along with all the Disney princesses, like Mulan and Shang, Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty and Prince Phillip and more.

Other miscellaneous thoughts- If you buy popcorn, you may as well get the bucket, not the boxes. The popcorn buckets come with free refills, so buy it when you come in, and make the most of it! The toys are pricey, of course, so warn the kiddos as to what your limit is. I always tell Little he can choose ONE thing- a food treat or a toy treat, but sometimes I let him have an extra. They are only young once 🙂
