As Google starts to enter the foray of home modernization it is clear the home of the future is a ‘smarter’ home. Does this mean we install a brain in your house, and a good one at that? What this means is, a more connected home which is aware of the world around it. The way this works is through smart phone interfaces and internet connectivity. Programmable thermostats, Smart Power strips for your devices, using dimmer switches, or installing a Nest Learning Thermostat, there are lots of options out there and the list goes on and on..
The category I see as most useful would probably be the smart thermostat and smart power strips. Both of which will bring your home into the future but also give you added security to your home. Doing so will make my busy life a little bit easier. The smart thermostat lets the users change the temperature of the their home from afar. So your home will always be comfortable to you when you get home. It will also keep energy consumption to a minimum as well.
Also something to keep in mind is the power itself, you want it from someplace reliable as well as competitively priced, the Comfort & Control Plan featuring a competitive energy rate from Direct Energy and the Nest Learning Thermostat

There is also a contest going on right now through Direct Energy through which 5 Nest Learning thermostats are up for grabs via their site. There are also tons of information on creating a smart, convenient home. This is of course in addition to details about the contest as well.
