If your family is like mine, you have at least one kid that loves the train. We do train rides at every chance, with our favorite being the Strasburg Railroad in PA. While we love the train, sometimes you want to switch it up a little or add a little something to it. The hobo lunch is perfect way to bring the authentic feel of an old-time train ride without having to hop between moving cars or robbing the passengers while on horseback. π
The hobo lunch is available at the Strasburg Rail Road and includes your choice of Cheese Steak, Pulled Pork, sandwich or hot dog as your main dish. Each comes with potato chips, cookie, baked beans, and your choice of lemonade or iced tea. The real treat is the way each is served. The main dish, chips and cookie are all wrapped up in a knapsack and served off of a stick, the baked beans are dished out of a hot kettle, and the beverages are all served out of jars. The serving style is hobo all the way but the quality is far from it. The sandwiches are the main dishes and the baked beans are sweet and tangy, the chips light and crunchy, the cookie is a home-made treat. As icing on the cake, you get to bring home the knapsack as a keep-sake of your hobo lunch.
My son really enjoyed himself, and he was very excited to eat a “real” train lunch, whatever that means π He’s 5, I’m not fighting with him, lol. He ate all his food, some of mine, and also a chocolate candy. So I will take it that he was happy, enjoyed his food, and didn’t have any issues to complain about. The fact that he also loves the train, the train ride, and got to play on all the fun train “extras” after the ride was done (like the cranky cars and pint sized pufferbelly didn’t hurt, either. Check it out next time you are in the area!
Wow! Your little guy gets to do some amazing things and go to some amazing places..looks like he was having a blast.
I really would love to try a piece of the cookie. I sure looks yummy π Definitely will try the Hobo Lunch. Thanks for sharing.
