On the road again..we recently took a trip to Punxsutawney, PA, home to “Punxsutawney Phil”, the famous groundhog!
Punxsutawney is one of the most famous small towns in America thanks to a furry little guy named Punxsutawney Phil. Every year on Groundhog Day (February 2), thousands of people make the trek to Gobbler’s Knob to hear Punxsutawney Phil’s prediction for the length of winter. If he sees his shadow when he emerges from his burrow there will be six more weeks of winter weather; no shadow foretells an early spring. For more information about the legend of Punxsutawney Phil, visit the official web site of the Groundhog Club (Phil’s caretakers) www.groundhog.org.
We did not go in the winter, lol… but we did go to Gobbler’s Knob to visit Phil.
And while we were there, we saw some “Phantastic Phil’s“!
Public art has joined hand and paw to bring an exciting new attraction to Punxsutawney, also known as “the home of the groundhog.”
“Phantastic Phils!” promotes community pride and solidifies this small western Pennsylvania town’s reputation as “Weather Capital of the World” by placing 32 bigger-than-life fiberglass groundhogs on the streets and near businesses throughout the community.
It was a cute trip. People are very proud of their Phil over there, and of their adorable town. It was super clean, and everyone was super friendly.
If anyone knows a great place to visit, let us know- we Have Sippy Will Travel!
Sounds like a fun trip. Love the pictures! I’ve always wanted to go there, I think it’s the 2nd grade teacher in me! : ) Glad you had such a great time!
