How adorable is this DVD!
And how great is it that you can always have episodes of Dinosaur Train handy? This is one of Little Man’s FAVORITE-FAVORITES, so you know it was a big hit with him. He wanted to bring it to bed with him the first night we had it, but I convinced him it could stay on his dresser, he didn’t really need to bring it into the bed. (That’s all I need is him to roll over and poke himself in the eye with a DVD case, LOL.)
I’m sure that you already saw my reviews of the episodes “Dinosaurs in the Snow” and “Big Stomping Dinosaur Feet;” and “Hornucopia,”, but let me just give you a little recap.

In “Big Stomping Dinosaur Feet; “Hornucopia, Daphne, a Daspletosaurus shows Buddy how to make stomping a fun dance instead of a temper tantrum. At the Big Pond, Tank introduces the Pteranodon family to his friend, Stacie Styracosaurus, a fellow Ceratopsian with a crown of elaborate horns on her head.

Encore presentations of “Dinosaurs in the Snow;” “Cretaceous Conifers” will broadcast on December 8, 12, 20, and 24 (check local listings). The episode is also one of eight fun and educational adventures available on the DINOSAURS IN THE SNOW DVD from PBS KIDS and Paramount Home Entertainment, in which Buddy travels to the North Pole, explores nocturnal animals, becomes a detective, celebrates his birthday and more! The DVD also features an interactive game, coloring pages, a dinosaur reference guide and parent information. SRP: $14.99.
In DINOSAUR TRAIN, young viewers join Buddy and his adoptive family of Pteranodons on whimsical adventures through prehistoric jungles, swamps, volcanoes and oceans as they unearth basic concepts in natural science, natural history and paleontology. The Dinosaur Train is a colorful locomotive, customized to accommodate all kinds of dinosaurs, and it has the ability to visit the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous worlds, while the Train’s Conductor, a knowledgeable Troodon, provides passengers with fascinating facts along the way.

DINOSAUR TRAIN is a Parents’ Choice Recommended TV series, and the DINOSAUR TRAIN website received a Parents’ Choice Silver Award and was the recipient of a prestigious 2010 Prix Jeunesse Award.

I brought it to the Pre-K with us (like I wouldn’t!) and of course the kids loved it as much as Little Man did.
We watched it before nap time one day (we have about 20 minutes of “movie” time a day at the Pre-K) and the kids had a blast. Believe it or not, a few of the kids had not seen Dinosaur Train before! 🙁 Dinosaurs in the Snow to the Rescue, LOL. The kids who previously didn’t know the show liked it right away. (What’s not to love? Dinosaurs, trains, cute little family unit, adventure- all the things kids like- PLUS they are learning!)
This is a great stocking stuffer or gift this year.
Definitely Little Man approved! (And his momma, too!)

You can get it on Amazon– it would be a great stocking stuffer!

The Jim Henson Company/PBS series Dinosaur Train is a fun, educational program that capitalizes on young children’s love of dinosaurs and trains, as well as their insatiable curiosity about the world around them. The four young dinosaurs of the Pteranodon family–one of whom is actually a Tyrannosaurus rex–love to explore the world via a prehistoric-time-traveling dinosaur train. From seeing snow at the North Pole for the first time, to unearthing million-year-old fossils, pondering whether huge trees grow from tiny seeds, tracking down a famous dinosaur singer, or seeking out the perfect big red flower for their mom, Don, Tiny, Shiny, and Buddy can always be counted on to ask important questions and seek the answers scientifically. Lucky for them, their parents and the Troodon train conductor are always more than willing to help them find the answers. The series features bright, animated dinosaurs and country-meets-rock songs that are immensely appealing to kids ages 3 to 6. But the best thing about the show is that it teaches kids some of the basics of scientific inquiry and process, like good observation skills and how to compare and contrast what they see; there’s also some general information about the different types of dinosaurs. Interestingly, the DVD does not contain any of the live-action segments with paleontologist Dr. Scott Sampson that are usually shown between episodes on the televised program. Bonus DVD-ROM features include an interactive game, coloring pages, a dinosaur reference guide, and information for parents about the program and its characters. –Tami Horiuchi
