Hey Bloggy Buddies- I wanted to pass on some information on Friends for Seals, who work very hard to help animals. Even if you think the hunt is “no big deal”- I hope that you read her post, and check out her website. Thanks for indulging me 🙂

A big Thank you to Samantha for the invitation to describe the goal of FriendsForSeals.ORG.
I appreciate everyone’s time. My name is Denise Perrin and I’m the Founder of FriendsForSeals.ORG. To let you know a little about myself, I’ve been rehabbing birds for over 20 years, as well as taking in abandoned animals of ALL kinds. I own a 100% cruelty-free business, La Bella Pink. I’m married, have a son, and live in California. I have been actively fighting and educating others about Canada’s annual slaughter of Harp seal pups since 1977. (In his book, Growing Up Happy, Bob Keeshan, Captain Kangaroo, credits Mr. Green Jeans for so many kids appreciation for animals! Maybe that’s when mine started!)
You are probably familiar with the whale and dolphin situation in Japan, but it’s Canada’s seal massacre that is the largest marine mammal slaughter on the entire planet.
FriendsForSeals.ORG is the first to bring news to you on this topic as well as being committed to accurate information. We believe this is the responsible thing to do, The Canadian government (taxpayer) has paid “Social Media Group” $75,000 to monitor the internet for incorrect information about the seal hunt. I won’t go into the graphic details about the hunt here. In the hope of bringing emphasis to what we are all about, let me first tell you what we don’t do. We don’t collect money. At this stage of the fight, donations to animal welfare groups, even that money designated to the seal hunt, will go for advertising. There has been no major on-ice protesting of the seal hunt for three years. Reputable groups will tell you this. We don’t discourage people from donating to organizations, but sometimes, when people donate, they feel they’ve done their part. A billboard that says, “Stop the seal hunt” won’t end the killing. It hasn’t for 60 years! FriendsForSeals.org believes that YOUR influence and educating of family and friends WILL.
There is an international boycott of Canada’s seafood underway. Why? Because the fishermen are the ones who brutally kill 99% of those killed. This is off-season employment for them, bringing in only $1,100 per yr. BEFORE TAXES.
The United States is Canada’s largest customer for fish. 75% of the fish coming from Canada wholesalers comes to America.
With today’s social networking capabilities, friendly demonstrations/protests, our volunteers are committed to a grassroots effort of bringing news and awareness, without financial cost to anyone. Familiar In-Store brand names (such as Gorton’s and Brunswick) canned, frozen, and fresh, come from Canada, so we have provided a list of them on our Facebook page under NOTES tab. We hope you’ll print it and share.
Though most stores and restaurants carry some fish from Canada, here are the largest restaurant and grocery store purchasers. Please boycott them and tell them why.(we provide ‘one-click’ links for you)
Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Bahama Breeze, Costco (warehouse stores), Kroger (Ralph’s) grocery, Publix Supermarket.
When President Obama was Senator, he expressed his disgust with Canada’s seal hunt. Please sign our petition, on the home page of our website, asking him as President, to tell Prime Minister Harper to end the hunt.

Thank you again for your time and remember, 95% of the seals killed EVERY year are between 12 DAYS and 90 DAYS old in the seal pup nurseries, right in front of their mothers. These are pups that will be born this spring and won’t even be old enough to know how to swim to find food. Help us to end this forever.
THANK YOU.
