Hey all-
Opinion time!
I have heard that some of you really dislike word verification for commenting on posts.  I understand that.  Would you guys prefer word verification, or if I moderated posts?  Or do you have another suggestion or preference?
Thanks for letting me know what you think!  This site should be a pleasant experience, and I want you to enjoy the time you spend here   🙂

 Thanks!
~Samantha

  1. I actually don’t mind word verification on the pop-up windows like this. I mind it when the comments are embedded in the page, and you hit submit, and then the password comes up.

Comment moderation is worse for giveaways because it is really hard to remember if you are on 3/5 or 4/5 of your comments.

  2. You will find you will get more comments on a post (esp giveaways) when you remove word verification 🙂

  3. I’ve just always accepted word verification as the next step to take. I think it would be very time consuming to have to moderate each comment.
I really don’t know which choice is best.

  4. I hate word verification(BIG PAIN), I moderate comments. It frustrating entering with moderation comment, simply because like the last person posted- getting lost on the entry method.

  5. I hate word verifications also really hate when it tells me i am posting to fast ugh

  6. I prefer neither. I have entered giveaways with word verification, comment moderation, and nothing. I definitely prefer entering giveaways where I don’t have to wait to see my comments, especially when each method (follow, post, etc.) can give you more than one entry. It takes up a lot of time and sometimes I forget which entry I am submitting. But between word verification and moderation, I would vote for moderation. I hope this helps. Good luck.

  7. I really dislike word verification and often will only do the mandatory entry on a giveaway because of it. I have also tried to comment on non-giveaway posts and had the word verification mess up, so that I lost my comment and I just end up not commenting. I don’t care for moderation much either, because if I can’t see my comment with all the craziness of kids and pets, sometimes I don’t know if I have done a giveaway entry yet or not…

  8. I really dislike word verification and have often not entered giveaways because of it. I have limited time and while I’m a fast typer and I do have a fast upload speed, it’s often just not worth it for me. Ditto to a lot of what addictedtocloth said. While I don’t host as many giveaways as many of you, I turned off word verification and moderation awhile ago and have never once got a spam comment.
I think it’s much more user/reader friendly to not have word verification or moderation. But again it’s your blog, do what you like. 🙂

    JMHO: )

  9. Definitely no on the Word verification. I am of the belief that you shouldn’t ask your readers to check spam for you.

  10. I don’t use either at my blog and I have no problems with Spam. It’s your call~but I prefer no verification.

  11. I personally don’t have a problem with word verification because my computer has no issues having it appear quickly, but I could see how it could be a hassle for people with slower computers, also when I used my mothers computer to enter giveaways over the holidays I had to refresh the page EVERY time because the word would not show up, so I could see how that would be an issue for some people.

The moderation will add a lot onto your plate 🙁

  12. I do not like word verifications, mainly because I have limited bandwidth so that is extra loading on each comment I leave. for blogs its hard to enter many due to this. I prefer moderation. I do understand it is harder for the blog owner though. Just my opinion.

  13. Im the blogging mama behind What Mama Wants http://questfortheperfectclothdiaper.blogspot.com
I host a lot of giveaways, and have word verification and moderation both off. I have never once had a spam comment. I don’t think you need either one, that’s my personal opinion. As a giveaway entering mama, I hate both. I love giveaways, and I love to comment on regular posts as well, but with word verification, I will usually end up dropping a blog, or not bothering to enter the giveaways, because it is such a hassel. That’s just my two cents though, I am a firm believer in “It’s your blog, you make the rules!”

  14. moderation 🙂

  15. I have been following you on FB, now on your blog – hope you can visit me at http://www.thejoyfuljungle.com and at facebook at http://www.facebook.dj/thejoyfuljungle

  16. Moderation

  17. I really hate word verification because it takes alot of extra time when entering giveaways. I prefer you doing the moderation! Good luck with your decision.
