Every 20 seconds, a child dies due to lack of clean water. Today is World Water Day, and IRD, along with many other organizations, is participating in several events designed to draw attention to this humanitarian crisis.
IRD is dedicated to providing clean water and sanitation systems around the world. From providing emergency supplies of water and sanitation options following last year’s floods in Pakistan, to rehabilitating water systems in Indonesia after the 2004 tsunami, to promoting solar disinfection in Laos, Mozambique, and Sri Lanka, IRD is working hard on solutions to this global problem. Read more about our water and sanitation programs: www.ird.org/water.
Help us spread the word about the importance of water and sanitation!
First, lend us your voice! Go to One Week For Water’s website and let us post daily status updates on your Facebook page or Twitter feed. Tell your friends and family about the dire need for clean water and sanitation in the developing world.
Second, help us get the word out! Reach out to your friends and associates and let them know you support universal access to safe water and sanitation. Tomorrow, March 23, the World Water Day Coalition is sponsoring an advocacy day on Capitol Hill for water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) issues. Go to http://oneweekforwater.org/participate-on-the-hill/ to read more about how to set up meetings on the Hill and what to say once you’re there. Consider forwarding this email to your friends or posting it on your Facebook page.
More people die every year from lack of access to clean water and sanitation than are killed by violence — including war. IRD is building sustainable, replicable, and scalable programs to change this. Please support IRD’s water programs by making a tax-deductible donation today.
