Stockpiling: How to do it the right way
If you only buy when the prices are at their lowest, you will always save the most money. Add a coupon, and you are really winning.
Get started
Make a list of what you buy most often.
Keep in mind items that can be stored for several weeks or months.
Consider where you have room to store these items.
Create a plan
Check the sales fliers for items on sale and use coupons.
Make room in your budget to stock up.
Plan meals around items you have on hand.
Build it up
Buy what’s on sale, marked down, and has a coupon.
Refer to your price book to know the best prices.
Buy enough to last 12 weeks.
Keep it fresh
Write the expiration dates on packages where you can see them.
Store the oldest items in the back and the newest items in front.
Mark it on your grocery list when you’re getting low / before you run out.
Get organized
Keep like items together (baking, canned, sauces, snacks).
Make sure you can view the product’s label and expiration date.
Stock efficiently and feel free to take it out of the pre-packaged box.
Be patient
Give yourself 6-12 weeks to build up your stockpile.
Dedicate a small dollar amount or percentage of your grocery budget to get started.
Donate free or cheap items to shelters, food banks, neighbors, family, and friends
Be prepared to have a weird combination of items in your shopping cart each week. However, over the course of a few weeks, your savings will really add up and you will have the makings of many meals.
Do you stockpile? Why? How?
This is an interactive series, which will feature answers to your questions. So, ask away!

We stockpile items we use often when they are on sale. It has saved us a ton of money.
We are not couponers. I love reading tips maybe one day I will catch on. lol
We stockpile items that we use a lot of. We don’t stockpile items that we use but not as often. If it’s on sale we buy it if we need it but not as much of it.
We also pay attention to the shelf life of stockpiling products.
Coupons, sales, and clearances 🙂
