Family Game Night 4 is the newest Kinect compatible game in the popular Family Game Night series. Game Night 4 breaks the mold a bit by basing itself on the game show on The Hub, Family Game Night. This show has contestants partake in various twisted versions of popular Hasbro games like Yahtzee bowling where instead of rolling dice from a cup players roll a giant bowling ball ad dice-like pins. Looks like a perfect game show to translate into a Kinect game.
Game Night 4 is the first in the series to take advantage of the Kinect. This game will make a regular family game night into a whole new creature. One which uses video games to bring a family together. The game has local multi player only with up to two players. So taking turns only. This is true of all Kinect games, 2 players only. Some may see this as a problem but the whole point of family game night is so a ‘family’ can play together and the Kinect limits the number of players to 2. I hope Hasbro finds a way around this with the next iteration of the series, because I would play with 2 Kinect players and 2 on controllers if need be as long as everyone can play.
The game itself has 5 mini-games Yahtzee bowling, Connect 4 Basketball, Sorry Sliders, Bop It! Boptagon and Scrabble Flash. My personal favorite is Connect 4 Basketball. The very interesting bit is if Kinect isn’t your thing, you can also play all the games with a controller. Both my kids loved this game. It was fun, easy to get the hang of and for all intents and purposed, simple. This game can be criticized as overly simple, but as long as you go into it knowing its a kids game you will get exactly what you are expecting.
If you are a more hardcore gamer, this is definitely not for you. But if you want to see your kids have fun or some family members flailing about your living room in the most graceful of ways. Give this game a spin.
I LOVE Scrabble so I’d love to play this!
This sounds fun. I think the fact that it is super simple will be a big plus for families because even the younger kids can get involved.
Thank you for your honest review of this game. Sounds like a great one to bridge the younger folk into the activity. We are looking for one to use with a 5 and 11 year old. Even though it’s only 6 years difference. It seems there is a larger gap then between say a 22 yr old and a 28 yr old..then again maybe not…hehehe. Thanks for the review. We love your honesty on the reviews!
I wish we had this right now. I know my family would love this. Looks like a lot of fun!! Thanks for sharing
Sounds like a great idea for when the grand kids come over.
