One of the oldest forms of yoga is Yantra Yoga. This yoga was first practiced in Tibet and is one of the oldest recorded yoga systems in existence. I had the privilege of trying out two of their instructional DVDs recently.

Both DVDs were of the Tibetan Yoga Movement series, part 1 and 2. These discs introduce the viewer to the system of Yantra Yoga. This system consists of seven phases of movement which are connected to seven phases of breathing. This series teaches us the seven phases. The first three in level one and the remainder in level two. Level one should be done first, by the way. No skipping.

This is a learning/meditating/exercising/relaxation technique, so you don’t get a prize for finishing first. Your prize is the journey which you are taking. Each level is broken up into two parts. Part one is a detailed instruction of the movements, while the second is to practice with. This series is very slow and relaxing, very different from the other forms of yoga which you may have tried. More emphasis is made on beginning and ending each session on level one while the movements are the main emphasis of level two. I would suggest this to anyone taking yoga classes. This could also be a good jump in point for someone interested in some of the more spiritual relaxing interpretations of yoga.
