Check out this nifty mix of kids music, including some catchy tunes and some kid friendly hip hop ๐Ÿ™‚ Not my fav, but it amused the hubs, LOL.
First up is the newest CD by Don On Fleas, it is called Invisible Friends. Dog on Fleas is a band which has a folky/poppy/upbeat sound to it. Their music is meant to be enjoyed by everyone, kids and adults. Their music is catchy and has a positive message weaved in as well. Not in a way that overcomes the song and make it obnoxious, but in a way which complements each song. We particularly enjoyed the song “Just Another Finger”.

The title might seem like something crude, and OK it’s funny ๐Ÿ™‚ – but in actuality its about your thumb. Very catchy and will easily get caught in your head (but not in a Barney song kind way, think good song on the radio). Dog on Fleas encourages kids to be their best selves, so parents will enjoy that. Of course, Little Man likes songs with a catchy chorus and this CD is full of them.

Next up is Secret Agent 23 Skidoo. This band is a family which makes music they describe as positive hip hop for kids. You may have heard “Gotta Be Me” already. Their forth coming CD is called Make Believers. This CD is more of the same fun and positive thinking songs as before, with aded hints of jazz, garage rock, and more brought to the mix. It is refreshing to see a family playing music together in this day and age and having fun putting forth a CD with a positive message.

The music can easily be mixed in with other hip hop and fit right in, except for the slow, easy to follow rhymes. This is a good thing for younger listeners who want to know exactly what is being said all the time. (And momma. I want to know, too!) Little Man’s favorite question in the car is, “What’s this song about?” This can be both difficult and interesting with modern songs, but a whole lot easier with Cd’s like this one. An interesting tid bit, this CD was partially funded by the fans through Kick Starter- take a look at their Kick Starter page to get a good idea of what this CD is about.
