Can you believe that summer is almost here? I can’t. Since school will soon be over, it’s time to figure out what to do for summer. One of the best ideas is to find a great summer camp. My Little Man will soon be attending Oasis Day Camp.
Oasis Day Camp is accredited by the American Camp Association and has won the New York State Department of Education’s Promising Practices Award for children’s programming. They run their camps at other institutions in order to keep costs down while not sacrificing quality or high standards, which are very important to them. (and to you too, right mommy?) Why pay through the nose when you can have a great experience for your child without taking out a second mortgage?
When I spoke to president and CEO of Oasis Children’s services earlier today, Bernie Tessler, he told me that they never hire high school kids to take care of the Oasis Campers. Why? Because they only hire qualified workers with experience dealing with children. As a mother and a teacher, I never understood why anyplace would hire young kids to take care of REALLY young kids. With a few exceptions, most high school kids are not responsible enough to be in charge of little kids. And in an atmosphere where there will be non-swimmers and water, sunblock that needs to be re-applied, and sports? This mommy is much comforted that there will only be qualified employees with her son. Or he wouldn’t be going. For Little Man’s age group, there is an excellent ratio of 4 to 1 (way below state requirements) and at least one certified educator per group of 15 kids. Mommy is happy.
From June 25 – August 17, 2012, my son will attend camp. He will (as a non-swimmer) learn to swim in the American Red Cross Swimming Program, where every camper has instructional swim time and are carefully monitored. Of course, there are also times for sports, arts and crafts, science, and drama- as well as singing songs, cheers, and strengthening leadership skills and creativity. Campers are between the ages 4 – 12, with the Pre-K campers having shorter bursts of activity to keep them from…..well, to keep their attention. You know how little kids are! 🙂
Campers can either bringing lunch, or for an additional fee, new this year they can participate in the hot lunch program. There are also buses available for a fee.
There are Oasis Day Camps located in NYC, Queens, Long Island, MA, and NJ.
I will keep you updated about our Oasis Day Camp experience- Little Man is super excited!
Mommy is happy they have water available at all times, will re-apply sunblock if requested, and have REAL teachers there for the kids. It looks like mommy and Little will both be happy campers!
My Little guy will be going to Oasis Day camp this summer free of charge to facilitate this and upcoming reviews. They will (as always!) be honest, and all opinions are my own.
My kids are too big for camp….can I send them to yours anyhow?
This looks like a great camp! I love when they can incorporate appropriate level swimming lessons into the camp program!
When my kids were younger, we alternated sessions between the local YMCA specialty camps and the local nature center camps. Was a great way to keep them entertained and active. My personal favorite was the nature center as the eco & nature themes varied weekly and it provided a great source of specialized education.
I Keep trying to tell my kids summer camp is fun, but they want know part of it 🙁
This looks like a blast! Camp is a life saver in the summer – I think we have three weeks booked! Hope your little one enjoys it!
My boys always loved summer camp
Sounds like lots of fun!
1 to 4 is a great ratio. It’s neat that little kids have this option now. I never went to camp because I was afraid to stay over night.
Sounds like fun!
Yay for little and summer camp. I hope he has fun.
