There is nothing you would not do to ensure the health and happiness of your family.
You have attended countless PTA meetings and soccer games, tirelessly scrubbed
those resulting grass stains and kissed the pain away from every bump and scrape. But
what is your reward for all the sacrifices you make? For some moms, their prize comes
in the form of a tropical vacation or just a fruity cocktail on the patio. Many women simply
delight in having nurtured a flourishing family. Others take a more extreme route, opting
for a “mommy makeover,” using plastic surgery to return their bodies to their tighter, pre-
baby forms. Whether you are considering going under the knife or just curious about the
procedures involved, here are some facts you should know about the popular trend.

When you first hear the phrase “mommy makeover,” it sounds innocent enough.
You might think it simply involves a wardrobe overhaul and a new makeup routine. But
it actually consists of a postpartum combination of operations including tummy tuck,
liposuction and breast augmentation in the hopes it will restore a woman’s body to its
condition before childbirth. These surgeries may be performed all at once or over a
period of time.

So what is a tummy tuck? This procedure is used to remove excess fat and skin
from the abdomen. It also repairs the muscles weakened by childbirth and time, creating
a sleek stomach. However, a tummy tuck generally does not eliminate stretch marks and
should not be used in place of a weight-loss routine.

Another component of a mommy makeover is liposuction. This method is used to
suction fat from many different body parts, including neck, chin, arms, legs, abdomen
and buttocks. While this is one of the most common cosmetic procedures, it does not
remove troublesome cellulite and is recommended for those who maintain a healthy
lifestyle. Experts recommend liposuction only if you do not achieve your ideal body from
regular exercise and proper nutrition.

One of the most popular aspects of this surgery combo is breast augmentation, as
many moms experience a drastic decrease in breast volume and unwanted sagging
after breastfeeding. They are able to return their busts to their original shape and
size using breast lifts, breast implants or a combination of the two procedures.

With all the exciting possibilities of a mommy makeover, remember that any kind of
surgery carries a certain amount of risk. While major complications from these types of
procedures are rare, you may endure a serious amount of pain. Plus, recovery takes
awhile, so be sure your schedule allows you the downtime to heal. It is also important
to understand that plastic surgery is not necessarily a permanent solution. Breast
augmentation in particular requires maintenance over the years.

While women worry that a mommy makeover is selfish and takes focus away from
the rest of the family, others view this surgery as an opportunity to regain their self-
confidence. This latter group of women finds that preserving a youthful body allows them
to be more successful in relationships and work. Whatever your motivation, take time
to carefully consider your options for achieving your ideal look. Discuss the pros and
cons with your partner, but if you decide to go through with a mommy makeover, do it for

yourself and no one else. This is a guest post by Evan Fischer.

There is so much of this going on now. I guess if it makes one have more self confidence, then…well, that would be ok. I know IF I had the money, I’d do a facelift with no questions ask but I really need something. I’ve said, if I won the lottery, I’d head there…I feel I am a mess so I can understand. Not sure i’d consider the risk for tummy tucks, etc. Just if it is a very big need and would drastically improve your appearance. I had a doctor tell me i look 10-15 years older than I am…I haven’t been the same since and don’t like to be seen. I knew I looked bad but he didn’t stutter saying this to me…Yikes!

  2. Good post! There are pros and cons to undergoing multiple surgical procedures at once. Saved time, lower cost, better results in symmetry, quicker total recovery time are on the plus side, but stress on the immune system is on the minus side. You must be in good health. Surgery should be limited to six hours therefore the amount of surgical work needed will be considered. I generally do not like to exceed 4 or 5 hours in surgery. Whether or not you are a candidate for multiple corrections at one time will depend upon your general health and the extent of the work to be done.
