Ever make plans to spend some quality time with yourself doing something absolutely nothing but you just can’t seem to get to it?
My “me time” had been the whole summer in the making. I know that I’ve complained shared about the little slab of concrete that we call our patio…..all the houses in our association have one, except most of them have built decks or sunrooms over the top of their slabs.
Not us. Mr. UnFun (MUF) “doesn’t see a need.” There is no budging him, believe me I’ve tried.
I would love to put in a deck, a screen room, an awning, or anything just to make it a more useable space. It would be so nice to sit outside and sip a glass of wine, look at the moon, read a book, or just spend a few minutes of quite after the kids have gone to bed. I’ve dressed it up a bit with the usual clutter your slab of concrete culprits ………….a fountain, and a canopy swing. I was actually starting to enjoy relaxing outdoors when I had to abandon my little “get away on the slab” project in trade for the spinal fusion.
Now that I ‘m feeling better, I’ve forever wanted to sit in front of the fire pit sipping a glass of petite sirah and enjoy a few quite moments alone. After 8 weeks of MUF’s coddling and doctor restrictions of no lifting, bending, twisting, driving, or much of anything – I was soooo ready for something that didn’t involve a neck brace or soft diet. I had it all worked out and was finally preparing for my little “me time” moment -me on the slab, just sitting, sipping, and maybe biting on a s’more or two…. except that MUF had already stashed away my patio furniture for winter storage.
Desperately trying to find a bit of ambience in time to watch the sunset I managed to find a camping chair, fill up the fountain and chill a bottle of wine.
While rummaging to find a place to set my glass I remembered that just before surgery I had snatched up these cleaver outdoor wine bottle and glass holders but hadn’t gotten to use them. They were perfect for the job. Sturdy little spirals turned out to be chrome genius…maybe my little slab isn’t so bad after all. I’m not sure what excited me more, the 20 uninterrupted minutes outside or the holders. Something so simple, yet functional and totally cool!
Truth be told I snagged them up Uncommon Goods. The name pretty much says it all – “uncommon,” as in unique, “goods,” as in really cool stuff. There are so many different creative designs that are of really high-quality and affordably priced. You know me….and assortment of sassy wine glasses at an affordable price and I’m all about it – I can’t even tell you how unique the collection is, it’s easier to show you -You have to take a gander at the unique style of Uncommon Goods wine glass collections for yourself.
I especially like that they carry so many items that are as different as the people we shop for….very individualized!
I got pretty excited the last time I shopped the wall art collection at Uncommon Goods because I had finally found a place that carried tasteful items that even I could afford but I think my biggest delight was when I discovered that they are “socially green.” Yes I made that term up but it’s fitting if you look at it.
I’ve been telling y’all forever about the two distinct characteristics that I look for in a retailer in order for them to earn my business. They don’t necessarily have to have both qualities but I prefer they have at least one of the other: Environmental awareness and social responsibility. I’m pleased to say that UncommonGoods actually is both environmentally conscious and socially responsible.

Printing their print catalogs on recycled paper lessons their footprint and all their merchandise is cruelty free……plus they have an assortment of products that are made from recyclables (Look for the green recycled icon throughout their online store).
Plus every time you shop with UncommonGoods and complete a purchase they will donate a portion to your choice of non-profit organizations: (read their Better to Give Program page for more details).
Sounds like a win-win to me 🙂
And to add to their Uncommon Goodness, they have generously offered one Lucky Lucy the same set of Uncommon Goods outdoor entertainment wine bottle and glass holders that I have.
