HexBugs have been swarming toy stores everywhere since 2007. These bugs have grown more complex with every iteration, and with this increase in complexity, the bugs have gotten realistic to the point that the larva series actually make some people turn away and squirm upon powering on. The larva move a lot like a maggot would, even turning away from you when you get close to it. Very cool and some absolutely ingenious designing and programming.
The HexBug line has taken a more battle oriented turn with their most recent Warriors line. These new bots start out as a HexBug Nano, then gives them a ‘few’ weapons, and a life gauge. The weapons are small plastic snap on pieces which turn your warrior into a battle-ready bot. As the bots move about the arena, they smash and bash each other until one of warrior’s life runs out. When the life runs out, your warrior is immobilized until the next round. Watching the little warriors battle is quite interesting. The way they move somehow mimics living creatures. When the bugs meet each other, there is climbing, hitting, and spinning as if a real battle between two creatures is developing. One of my chief concerns with the new Warriors line, was this would be the beginning of a marked change away from the mimicking bugs that we so enjoy to something not so interesting. Turning the interesting little bug bots into mindless toys that smash into each other. This is not the case, HexBug is still the best robotic bug out there and the Warriors are a welcome addition to the collection. I can’t wait until the make these big enough to drive to work in.
This looks pretty cool! I hadn’t even heard of these until now.
That is too funny to see so many hexbugs and their battle stations..to be honest I bought these and put them in my kids stocking last yr and they still are in the tube unopened.
My son loves the hexbugs we have. Nice to see the product line expanding!
OMG… if I hear the word hexbug just 1 more time, I may go mad… 😉
My nephew has like, a zillion of these. At least. And, he brings about 1/2 his collection over every time (weekly dinner) so our guy and him have these pretend battle fights or some other boy words (??) and all you can do is try to step around their battle zone LOL It’s very cute to watch and they certainly have quite an imagination about the whole thing.
I saw these at BlogHer and thought they were a neat way to introduce more “thinking” into a “random” sort of game. Great idea!
These are so neat. I think my cat likes them the best though!
My nephews love hexbugs i’m sure they’d love this stadium
