Microsoft has been one of the innovators of Office suites with their Office line of products. This line includes: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher and Access.

The newest version of Office is called Office 365. The biggest difference between 365 and previous iterations is this version is cloud based. Cloud based means your software and documents are always at hand no matter the device or location as up to date as possible and accessible from the internet. If it can be used to type or write, then chances are it can be used with Office 365. Compatible devices include: PC’s running Windows 7 and higher, Macs running OS X 10.6 and higher and Windows Phones running Windows Phone OS 7.5 and higher. Thus opening entire worlds of data and work spaces on a plethora of devices. In addition to running on many Windows and Mac machines, your files are also accessible via free Office web apps which are linked to your SkyDrive account. This allows users to view, read, edit and share their documents from any internet connected device running a supported browser.

One of the most interesting pieces of software included with Office 365 Premium is OneNote. OneNote is a digital notebook. This notebook allows the user to save everything from typed notes, and handwritten notes to embedded pictures, documents, videos and more. This would be very useful in a classroom setting either as student or teacher, for that matter. Instead of simply giving out Powerpoint slides on a particular subject, multimedia can be included as well as links and presentations can be shared in the form of a notebook.

On Office.com there are also a ton of templates to help get your data organized depending on what you’d like to do. From a trip planning guide created by Travel+Leisure magazine to wedding planning and meeting minutes recording. If there is a need to remember or reference any form of data, OneNote can be used for it. I find it most useful for those hectic meetings or brain storming sessions where taking good notes is not possible. Lets say the family is planning a road trip. Everyone has ideas but to pull all the ideas together at one time is easier said then done. OneNote can be used to keep pictures of destinations, along with reviews, personal notes and audio recordings all in one place for easy compilation and review to finalize the plan. Leading to a stunning vacation everyone is happy with.

Office 365 Premium retails for $99/year and is available in 162 markets in 21 languages. Retail outlets include Best Buy, Staples, Dixons, FNCA, Challenger, Amazon.com, Microsoft Store and Office.com. There is also a free 30 day trial available at Office.com.
