My son had a fantastic time in Branson.  There was a lot to see and do, and much to engage him while we were there.  Two of his favorite activities were the “Ride the Ducks” tour and the “Titanic Museum”.  He actually wanted to go back to the museum every day we were there- so that should really tell you something.

The Ride the Ducks duck tours are great family fun, with adults having a great time as well.  As you ride the amphibious  land and water Duck Boat through the Ozarks, to the top of a mountain, and into the beautiful Table Rock Lake (quacking all the while with your “Wacky Quackers”) your tour guide gives you fun facts about the area and you get a great view of Branson.  Once your duck gets on the lake, the children will all get the opportunity to drive the duck, and get a certificate when they get back to the station as well.

These “ducks are built just for for Ride The Ducks and our partners to look like WWII DUKW vehicles. On the top of the mountains, you can see many retired (and unarmed) vehicles from the armed forces, which the kids loved and was quite interesting.   The ducks are safe, of course- according to the website, “The Ride The Ducks Duck uses the latest in marine design and safety.  They are regularly inspected, tested & certified by the United States Coast Guard to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for our guests.”  Can’t beat that!  There is also a museum of armed forces inside the tour center.

The Titanic Museum was awesome, my son’s favorite thing to do in Branson, and one of his favorite things he has done at all this year.  He talks about it all the time.  They have a special children’s exhibit and guided tour that is created just for a younger age group with aspects that will engage and entertain them, as well as keep them interested.  And it’s on their eye level, which is really helpful.

When you arrive, you wait in line in plain view of the sinking ship and giant iceberg (of course, this is the building of the museum).  My son was immediately enthralled.

The Titanic Museum Attraction in Branson. MO pays tribute to the lives lost and saved as well as the world’s best known ship (barring perhaps, the arc?) You and your family become “passengers”  and experience what it was like to walk the hallways, parlors, cabins and Grand Staircase of the Titanic while surrounded by more than 400 artifacts directly from the ship and its passengers.  You are able to touch a real iceberg, experience the cold that passengers felt when then fell into the waters that night as you put your hands into 28-degree water, and try to stand on the sloping decks (with explanations saying at what time the main deck was positioned that way towards the water- it was amazing how fast the ship went upright).   To visually it in person was amazing- I had read it, but to SEE it and to try to stand on those decks really made you get a better understanding and picture of what happened, and how scary it must have been to be on board that night.

As you enter the museum (or “ship”), you will each receive a boarding pass of an actual Titanic passenger or crew member. As you take the self guided tour, look for your person’s name and try to see what happened to “you” as you progress- there may even be an artifact or two that belonged to “you”.  At the end, find your name on the walls, and discover the fate of your passenger or crew.

Some of the highlights of the museum include-

  • Receive a Boarding Pass of an actual Titanic passenger/crew member
  • View $4.5 million + of Titanic artifacts
  • Walk the $1 Million exact replica of Titanic’s Grand Staircase
  • Touch an iceberg and feel 28-degree water
  • Shovel “coal” in Titanic’s Boiler Room
  • Learn how to send an SOS distress signal
  • Experience the Sloping Decks of the ship’s stern as she descended
  • Sit in an actual size lifeboat and hear true passenger stories
  • Discover your passenger’s fate in the Titanic Memorial Room

And…come meet Molly and Carter, Titanic’s Mascots working daily from 9am-5pm as a tribute to the dogs that were onboard Titanic.  (Molly and Carter are two dogs that were on board the Titanic- there is also a memorial to the dogs lost that night, as well as information on the survivors.  Children are captivated by the stories of the dogs, and these too are available in many rooms as well as interactive displays and part of the self-guided tour. )
