When you think of Niagara Falls, chances are you immediately think of weddings, marriage proposals and romance—no surprise given the fact that America’s oldest state park has been a hotspot for young lovers for over a hundred years now. What many people don’t realize, however, is that Niagara Falls is a fabulous destination for families too. So for those of you who’ve already got wedding rings on your fingers and safety seats in the back of the car, here are five great reasons to whisk your family away from home to Niagara Falls.
It’s Spectacular for All Ages
It doesn’t matter if you’re aged 7 or 77, the three breathtaking waterfalls that make up Niagara Falls are sights of natural beauty, wonder and incredible power. Children and adults witnessing the Falls for the first time are usually equally in awe of what they’re seeing—when nature is this majestic, all ages can appreciate it. Plus, this is something that every American and every Canadian should see at least once in their lifetime. What’s the harm in starting early?
The Maid of the Mist
If you only step foot on a boat once in your life, try and make The Maid of the Mist the one! Traversing the river underneath the waterfalls and getting so close to the falls, it’s impossible for passengers to not get soaked (don’t worry—The Maid provides waterproof ponchos to all guests), this is one boat trip that will thrill and enthrall the entire family. All passengers must be aged 5 or older.
Wildlife is Fun
If yours is a family of happy campers who adore the outdoors and wants to venture out of the proximity of their house; the 400-acre Niagara Falls site will be a heavenly vacation destination. The multitude of footpaths and trails could keep you busy for days, while the younger members of your party will enjoy the thriving wildlife here—including thousands of species of waterfowl. If they’re lucky, they may even catch sight of an American bald eagle here. Botanists in training will also be fascinated by the rare plants along the Niagara River Corridor.
It’s Educational for the Kids
Not only is Niagara Falls the perfect place to teach your little ones about the importance of conservation for both plants and animals, it’s also an excellent opportunity to teach them about clean energy—something the next generation is bound to be concerned about. Niagara Falls produces more electricity in New York State than any other source, thanks to the 750,000 gallons of water that flows over the falls every single second. Best of all, 4D movie Niagara’s Fury is an interactive attraction that attempts to recreate the formation of Niagara Falls—your little ones will learn something and have a lot of fun at the same time.
Journey Behind The Falls
The whole family will feel like adventurers at this attraction, where visitors travel through tunnels behind Horseshoe Falls, getting to appreciate these gigantic natural wonders from a whole new angle. The journey ends at a special observation deck that’s incredibly close to all that rushing water—meaning things will probably get a little wet and wild!
I really enjoyed taking my kids To Niagara Falls, they were so in awe. Along our journey we also spent time at Letchworth State Park. What treasures we have here on the New York Canadian border.
My grandsons love going to our local national parks and enjoy learning about nature, etc. We would love to visit there some time!
