Baby showers don’t need to be all about expensive presents, awkward small talk and games that usually involve putting nappies on unsuspecting dolls. If you’re planning a baby shower then this is a fabulous opportunity to celebrate the upcoming birth of your baby with friends and family. We’ve come up with some great ideas on how to break away from tradition but still create a wonderful celebration to remember.

A little help from your friends

If you are getting tired and feeling the effects of your pregnancy, then get a close friend or family member to organize your baby shower for you. You can discuss all the details with them beforehand, but having someone else take care of the invitations, food, games and decorations will mean that you can sit back, relax and take a well-earned break!

Baby shower gifts

Your guests will all want to bring a gift to your baby shower, so one idea is to come up with a gift list so that you don’t end up with five nappy cakes! Don’t be afraid to ask for practical gifts and baby essentials as well as keepsakes or special outfits – these baby shower gifts will help give you peace of mind that you’re getting everything ready in time for baby’s arrival.

Of course, the gifts don’t always have to be for baby either! Moms also need plenty of TLC so you could always come up with a few ideas like massages or a basket of pamper goodies to see you through the last few weeks of your pregnancy.

Choose a theme for your shower

One way to get away from the focus being all about presents is to come up with a great theme for your baby shower. It’s your party, so you can move away from traditional pink or blue pastel colours and come up with something totally different! Why not go for a vintage tea party theme complete with cupcakes, or turn your shower into a pamper session with massage and manicures?

Baby shower games

Games for your baby shower come in all shapes and sizes, from the cute factor to the gross factor! For the best baby shower game ideas, try getting your guests to taste baby food and write down what they think they are eating; test their knowledge of chocolate by melting different chocolate treats onto nappies and get your guests to sniff them (this one is a great photo opportunity too), ask your guests to bring along baby photos and play guess who, or guess the weight of your baby to be. A final touch could be to ask all of your guests to write a note or poem for baby in a special keepsake book.

Boys allowed

For something a little different, ask partners to come along with your guests – the men can start up a BBQ in the backyard or even help out with some of the games! This could make your baby shower more relaxed and informal, and it’s good for the men to discuss impending fatherhood too!

Whether your baby shower is a relaxed affair in your home or a large scale sparkling event with themed decorations and centerpieces, the whole point of a baby shower is to spend time with people you love in celebration of your baby to be. When the big day arrives, if you can relax, enjoy time with your friends and come away with some fabulous photos and memories then your baby shower will be a great success. Enjoy every moment.
