Eating on the go can be challenging, especially if you have kids who are picky eaters. Often, they will gravitate toward the heavily fried, fatty, or sugary sweet foods that are horrible for their health. Instead of giving your kids foods that lack nutrition, help them make smart choices even at fast food joints. When you have to eat on the go, here are some fast-food meal options to consider.
1. In order to give you kids healthier fast foods, choose grilled meat over fried options whenever possible at fast food restaurants. Many fast food joints boast and promote deep fried meals that are indeed tasty, but horrible for your kids’ health. Instead, help your kids choose the grilled chicken options that are always available. Grilled over fried eliminates the high amounts of saturated fat, oils and breading for a healthier option. One options is to get the Grilled Chicken sandwich from Chick-fil-A without heavy use of condiments or sauces and with only a small order of fries, if you need fries at all. Other side options include carrots or fruit cups which are much better choices.
2. If you are at Wendy’s you can make your own meal, even though it isn’t actually on the menu. For a healthy, kid-friendly meal, order a baked potato and the side of chili from the menu for a unique, one-of-a-kind Chili Baked Potato. This meal provides kids with a well balanced diet of carbs, proteins, fats, and especially fiber. Plus, it’s delicious and it’s different from options they can order at other fast food restaurants since most places don’t have baked potato options on their menus.
3. When out to eat at KFC, you can take the fried out of chicken for a healthier alternative. Here, they offer a grilled chicken breast, which is way better than any grilled chicken sandwich since it eliminates the bread and extra unnecessary carbs. Add a fruit cup for desert as well. Go Cups are about $2.49 each and are easy to eat in the car.
While eating at fast food restaurants is not ideal, it is can sometimes be necessary when you are on the go. Luckily, this doesn’t mean you need to let your kids eat junky, fattening foods. Help them to make wise, nutritious decisions even at fast food restaurants. Choosing grilled instead of fried meats and fruits and veggies over fries makes a huge difference.
Also, encourage well balanced meals with proteins, fats, carbs and vitamins.
