Even teens who aren’t totally invested in fashion still know what their friends are wearing. And most make at least a modicum of effort to develop their own sense of style during their adolescence. In fact, many teen girls are continually trying new fashion trends in an effort to figure out what they like and what defines their personal sense of style (or what will get the attention of their peers). So the teen girls in your house are probably begging to go shopping for a new summer wardrobe. And here are just a few of the fashion trends you’re sure to see in stores this season.
-
White shorts. You might not want to buy them for the younger girls in your household since kids are prone to getting messy. But teen girls are a lot more likely to take pains to keep their white shorts in pristine condition. Okay, they’re going to throw them on the floor with every other piece of clothing they own. Luckily, there is a saving grace inherent to this summer trend: the best thing about white shorts is that you can always use bleach to correct any mishaps with food or park benches. That means this item might actually last until next summer.

Crop top/shorts combo. Rompers are cute for younger girls, and although they come in sizes for teens and even grown women, your older daughters may be more interested in the two-piece options that are gracing the pages of fashion mags everywhere. Whether they prefer matched sets or mix-and-match options, the high-waisted shorts and cropped bustier tops that characterize these cute summer outfits are perfect for BBQs, movie dates, or a day at the mall. And the fact that the pieces can be paired with other outfits makes this ensemble all the more versatile for your teen’s wardrobe.
-
Floral dresses. The florals of today are not the same ones used to decorate Grandma’s couch. The calico patterns featured on dresses in the juniors department are altogether brighter, bolder, more vibrant, and more visually interesting than the wallpapers and upholstery of yesteryear. And there is no shortage of colors, patterns, and styles to choose from. Plus, the flouncy skirts and flattering cuts ensure that these summer classics will bear no comparison to something that older generations might don.
-
Retro swimwear. Mix-and-match bikinis are a carry-over from last year, so teen girls can re-use the suits they already have. But if they’re looking for something different this summer, retro one-pieces and bikinis aren’t hard to find. The polka dots, high-waisted bottoms, and full-coverage, single-piece swimwear of previous generations are making a comeback and your teen girls may want to get in on this cool and sophisticated trend.
-
Graphic tanks. Cropped tanks have become the new tee of summer. So while the boys wear their Brony tees and hipster sunglasses, the girls in your household are likely to don a seemingly endless parade of graphic tanks this summer that showcase their personality along with their favorite media darlings, random graphics, and ironic imagery that you probably understand better than they do.
Some of these styles my daughter likes and others not so much. The white shorts are a no go with her. All I can say is thank goodness!
