The Day He Was Born – My #PromiseToBaby #Partner

I never expected to (honestly, or wanted to) get pregnant.  It was not on my “list of things to do”.  I had other thoughts, but clearly God knew better then I did.  I’ve made many, many mistakes in my life (which certain people enjoy pointing out just a little too much, but what can you do, ay?) but of all of them, getting pregnant with my son was the best one I ever made.  He was unexpected, and came at a time that was less then ideal, but in reality and in the grand scheme of things- he came at the perfect time and entirely perfectly.  Shows what I know about anything.  Exactly nothing.

While some people think that review and lifestyle blogs try to make out the writer/blogger’s lives to be perfect and without flaw, most bloggers just keep personal details to themselves, as they are not online diaries.  We are far from perfect people- but most of us do the best that we can every day- win, lose, or draw.  Some days are better then others, just like everyone else.  I’d like to tell you about the best day of my life.

newThe day my son was born was after a long labor.  I will spare you those details.  I ended up having a C-Section, since he was already being the stubborn little boy that I have come to know and love, and refusing to come out when he needed to.  After some trial and effort, we got the anesthetics in and we were ready to go.  A sheet was placed up at roughly chest level- I was not able to see the moment my son came into the world.  I was, however, able to hear his first cry- and in that moment, I knew that everything I thought I knew in the world, everything I was sure of, or that made me “me”- was wrong.  Was over.  That was he was my world.  And then I saw his face.

I looked at my husband, who, like me, was crying. I was not able to touch him at first, since my arms were held down, but when I spoke to my new son, he stopped crying.  I felt like I simultaneously understood everything and knew nothing.

4Most of you have seen many pictures of this little man- the love of my life, the apple of my eye, and who brought joy to a very difficult period of my life.  I am eternally grateful to him, and to God for choosing that time of my life to bring him to me.  He has taught me so much, and continues to.  I have a lot to learn- I hope he is patient with me.

One of the products I counted on as a new mom (and in fact the hospital sent us home with some) was JOHNSON’S® Baby Wash. I still use it on him, and I love the smell.  Yes, I know he’s getting to be a big boy- but he will always be my baby, and I’m in no rush to grow him up any faster then he already is.

From the Sponsor-

“We love babies. And the last thing we want is for you to worry about safety. That’s our promise to you. After we heard that some moms were concerned about the ingredients in our products, we made the decision to stand up and change our product formulas—not because of safety, but for peace of mind.

As a way to express our commitment to babies everywhere, we have created a video sharing our promise as a love story to all of you. Based on a Japanese legend that folding 1,000 origami cranes will result in a wish granted and a hope fulfilled, our scientists came together with their families to create an origami stork mobile to show mom that her promise is our promise, too.”
