With great power, comes great toys.  That’s how it goes, right?  Let’s go with it.   If you are looking to power up, check out these fun new playthings that have recently hit the stores.

seal stuff 012If you have a little one, chances are you have seen or heard of Paw Patrol- the hit TV show aimed at Pre-K and kindergarteners.  The show revolves around 6 puppies, Chase, Marshall, Rocky, Zuma, Rubble, and Skye. They have a human companion, a ten year-old boy who likes technology, named Ryder. They work together as a team, solve problems, and help creatures and the environment while showing kids cooperation skills. Now the pups are available as toys, from plush to action figures and even vehicles (which play a large part in the show).  The “Racers” are also lots of fun, because they each come with one vehicle and one pup, and have real working wheels that even small kids can use for push and race fun.  If your child is a fan of the show or of animals in general, these super-pups will be a fun treat for them.  Available for $7.99 and up at Amazon, Target, and more.

It’s always a good time for LEGOS. Some of the latest superheros variety include Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Guardians of the Galaxy, and the Lego Movie- full of heroes.  Some of our current favorites include the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Knowhere Escape Mission and the Guardians of the Galaxy Starblaster Showdown, both featuring the characters from Guardians Of The Galaxy. The Knowhere Escape Mission is a fairly large set, great for bigger kids or collectors. It has 433 pieces, and comes with 3 minifigures and weapons- Rocket Raccoon, Nebula and the Sakaaran, as well as a Groot figure.  Star Blaster Showdown comes with 196 pieces, 3 figures, weapons, and more (features handcuffs as well, which is pretty cool and somewhat unique). About $40 and $20, respectively.

080214 Lumix 194LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtle Sub Undersea Chase  is pretty awesome, even if you are not sure where you stand on the movie ( and I personally hate you, Michael Bey, for ruining a cherished childhood show and tuning it into a live action “Meghan Fox Movie”- so, yes.  Biased.) the LEGOS are awesome.  This 684 piece set comes with 4 figures- Donatello Leonardo, 2 Kraang, as well as a Leatherhead figure.  It lets kids (and adults who like to pretend they bought the set for their kids) recreate scenes from the movie- or use their imaginations and make up new ones.  Flick missiles, fire shooters, and mini subs are all in the weapons armory. About $60.

080214 Lumix 199From the hit “The Lego Movie”, check out one of the 17 building sets based on the show. The Castle Calvary set comes with 3 figures (Sir Stackabrick, Gallant Guard, and Where Are My Pants?) as well as 424 pieces to build a crossbow and mobile catapult. Use the crossbow, cannon, catapults and flame flick missiles in the armory to guard the castle and protect the other figures. About $30.

Act out the scenes right from the movie with these fun sets!

seal stuff 007How To Train Your Dragon 2 was a big hit this summer in movie theaters, and there are some fun toys to make the fun last longer. If your kids loved the movie as much as my son did, you will love these (and the price points as well). From cute bath toys like the Squirt and Float Dragons (set comes with 3 dragons, yes- Toothless too) to battle sets such as Toothless Vs. The Dragon Catcher, these will capture a child’s imagination and are straight from the movie.  For $8 and up at stores like Toys R Us and Amazon, you and your children can relive summer movie memories well into fall and fly right into winter.

080214 Lumix 203Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are back, and in a new variety.  The new figures are a little grittier, but kids don’t seem to mind.  Now available in several sizes, varieties, and even kids wearable accessories (my son has not taken off his Leonardo cuffs, sword, and mask/bandana- except when his friend Emory has needed a turn with them), every new TMNT lover will find something (or many things) they just have to have.  Right now.  The large sizes (a foot tall) are more articulated then you would think, and are quite fun (especially when used to smaller action figures- a cool change up). They start at $14 on Amazon, masks at $13 on Amazon. Smaller, basic figures of the turtles as well as the foot clan, Shredder, and more are available in around 6 inch size for about $9 on Toys R Us.
