Komaneko The First Step is the newest eBook by Tsuneo Goda the creater of much renowned character Domo. Designed similarly to Domo’ s look both characters share the familiar baby plush look, but Komaneko clearly has an animal reference.

The app The First Step is an eBook which also sports a few extras. In general there are 3 parts of the eBook 1) the book itself 2) the video and 3) the games.

1) The eBook itself is about a silly little Komaneko who is trying to make a movie using stop-motion animation. The story is geared toward preschoolers and is great fun to either read out loud or have it read to you. Kids can also poke pictures or words to have them read back to them to help expand vocabularies.

2) The video included with the eBook is of Kamaneko’ s finished movie. ITs quite nice to get this level of interaction with a children’s book.

3) The games. This ebook has a total of 6 games. They are:

Movie maker: Easily make a movie just like Komaneko did in the story

Spot the Difference game: kids have to point out he differences between two images

Puzzles: put the pieces together to form a larger image.

Mission Button: Help find Wink’s button eye with the help of Komaneko.

Coloring pages: 6 illustrations and a paint studio portion.

Matching Game: Match two of the same objects.

This app is great fun for little ones and I would suggest reading the story with your little guy or girl first then letting them enjoy the rest of the eBook. It makes more sense that way.
