Halloween is traditionally celebrated in the United States on October 31st.  Halloween in the US centers around costumes and trick or treating, parties and fun for families in the day and adults at night time.  The costumes are available just about everywhere from places like Mr. Costumes to the local pharmacy.  Candy is available everywhere and parties are easy to find and even easier to throw yourself.  We all know how Halloween looks in the United States but what about in other countries, or other continents.  Lets take a look at Halloween in 4 countries.

First up we will visit the Philippines.  In the Philippines as of now Trick or Treating is becoming the tradition of choice for more modern people in the country but some still celebrate All Saints Day by Pangangaluluwà.  Which involved groups going home to home singing songs of Purgatory and accepting food and money to help pay for the masses of the dead.  Also items may move from the yard or around the house to other areas and this is thought to be the souls of those lost visiting the living by moving the items.

Bosnia and Herzegovina vignesh Halloween is celebrated mostly by the young.  Often times children wear masks and costumes to school and is called Noć vještica or Night of witches.

Ireland takes things to a darker tone.  Children and adults dress up as creatures from the underworld and enjoy lighting bonfires and huge fireworks displays.

In Singapore Halloween is called  Zhong Yuan Jie / Yu Lan Jie or Hungry Ghosts Festival.  The festival is celebrated seventh lunar month and it is believed the gates of hell open up and spirits come back to visit their families.  During this time there are many outdoor live musical performances including the Chinese Opera.

Although all these celebrations sound great, please don’t take my word for it and check them out yourself. 😛
