As fall turns to winter weather for many states, lots of children will be spending more time then usual indoors as the temperature drops.  If last winter was any predictor for this year, it’s going to be a cold one, and you wont’ want bored minions in your ears all day (and night) long.  Here are a few of the latest fun toys that are perfect for quelling cabin fever.

10 29 14 004With Disney’s new movie, Big Hero 6 about to be released (November 7th), there are a slew of toys on the shelves that your kids will be begging for.  This was one of the cutest movies we have seen for families in a long time, (press screening) even if it was a bit sad at times.  Of course, the main characters Hiro and Baymax are nearly everyone’s favorites, with the silly and huggable (also inflatable) robot Baymax stealing the show for children.  My son loved dressing up like Baymax with the Baymax Rocket Fist and Mask (from Bandai), available for about $23 on Amazon. This mask looks just like the one Hiro made for Baymax, but it’s not a full helmet so it is easy to take on and off (and less likely to get stuck on). The Rocket Fist actually works as well, so use it outside or away from breakables.  The fist is soft, so it won’t hurt anyone, but safety first.  Launch it at the bad guys while you save the day!

If your child is a fan of Monster High, you will want to see the new MONSTER HIGH® Freaky Fusion™ Catacombs dollhouse.  Personally, some of the clothing on the Monster High Dolls to me is tragic- no child who is young enough to play with dolls needs to see them in outfits so…..let’s go with “slinky”.  But the dolls are innovative and fun, and in the current trend of monsters and zombies.  If you can find dolls with appropriate clothing, or put other clothes on them (which is what we do) I am all for it.  No clothes on dolls I don’t want to see children in- Sorry, Charlie.   But I digress.  The dollhouse is fun and again, in the trend of the macabre- but for kids.  There was a recent Monster High movie, “Freaky Fusion” that featured the Catacombs below the school, Monster High.  This set is just that, and also is a good place for your dolls to be displayed, put away in, and played with in general.  It would make for a fun Halloween party with all your dolls coming, yeah?  As much as I don’t like some of the clothes on these dolls, the dollhouse is very neat and different from anything else.  Dolls sold separately, for about $110 on Mattel’s website and stores near you.

products 009The Fisher Price Imaginext® Battle Rover is a two in one- both playset AND vehicle.  It even has a removable space shuttle (my son’s favorite part).  As you wile away the winter hours indoors, explore space with the Battle Rover.  This play-vechicle has it all- here is a list of what it comes with; “projectiles; disk launchers; an alien-detecting chamber that lights up; 19 lights and over 200 unique sound effects and phrases; a transforming and removable space shuttle with its own projectile launchers and sounds; a kid-activated control panel; pull-out drill, saw blade and crane; three figures and a small vehicle.” (as per Imaginext)  That’s a whole lot of play.  Kids imaginations will soar as they find new things to “explore”, see, and do.  My son spent hours on this the first day it was opened, and it continues to be a favorite.  Read your kids space and exploration books to feed their minds and make play even more expansive and creative- it’s a great way to get some science in (and in a fun way, too).   Available for $100 and up in stores like KMart.
