For children Christmas is a time of wonder and fun, as well as plenty of suspense in the build up to the big day. The festive season is a time where children should be experiencing new things (keep trying with those sprouts) and getting excited as more and more presents are placed under the tree.
But what can you do to make this Christmas one that will be remembered? You don’t need to spend hundreds of pounds or do anything too extravagant, little traditions and fun activities with the family are what children will grow up to remember best.
Well, you could skip meeting Santa and take the kids along to see the real heroes of Christmas, the reindeers! Reindeer grottos are great fun and can be found up and down the country, where children can pet and feed live reindeer.
The Reindeer Centre in Kent offers a fantastic experience for kids – and adults – where little ones can meet Santa and the Elves and receive a special present, walk through a fun animated Grotto, meet and pet the reindeers and play in special areas featuring artificial snow and fun pop hole photo opportunities. There’s no need to book and the venue is open daily, so would be perfect to visit a few days before Christmas.
On Christmas Day why not organise a fun treasure hunt with gold coins that you can only find at this time of the year? Or even presents and get the kids to run round the house and garden searching for them. Make the activity even more memorable by dressing up as Father Christmas or Elves, very young children will believe you are the real thing and feel extra special.
Have you ever considered buying or renting out a property abroad? Investing in a holiday home and taking the family out to enjoy Christmas in a sunnier climate will provide Christmases they can cherish forever. Just imagine spending Christmas Day on the beach or running and jumping into the pool once your Christmas dinner has settled. You could look into purchasing a villa in Portugal with its own pool through Portugal Properties, a quaint cottage in France or an apartment in Florida, where Disneyworld is just a quick car drive away.
Having a base in a different country is a great investment and a way to eventually save money each year on holidays, there will usually just be a maintenance fee to pay, as well as your flights and the cost of eating. Plus it gives you an excuse to escape the cold grey weather in the UK and enjoy Christmas somewhere a little more exotic.
You can also give other children, besides your own, a Christmas to remember this year. The Kids Company charity relies on donations, so it can put on its annual A Christmas to Remember party for children who would otherwise be alone and without food or presents on Christmas Day. By donating you can ensure a child has hot food, positive company and a small gift to enjoy on one of the most special days of the year, when no child should be sad and alone.
