The holidays are here, and so are all those wonderful foods we all love. From turkey on Thanksgiving, to Latkes on Chanukah, or Ham on Christmas, there are literally tons of great food to eat and eat way too much of. I suggest this year, you try to make a meatless hors d’oeuvres for your guests. This can be not only healthy, but delicious as well. Going meatless is also one of the trendiest ways to be healthy this year, both online, and off.
Going Vegan is one of the hottest fads right now, with #meatlessmondays as one of the biggest hashtags. Even celebrities are following the act, with Jennifer Lopez’s 22-day vegan challenge, which also had Beyoncé and Jay-Z involved as well. Going Vegan is getting easier then ever. There are even restaurants popping up around the country too so you can keep to your cuisine while still going out to dinner.
The health benefits of going vegan are numerous- not only do meatless proteins have less fat and no cholesterol. Plant proteins are rich in vitamins too. These all greatly reduce risks of cancer, obesity, and diabetes.
Not only are there health benefits to going meatless, but there are also environmental positives as well. Meat has many negative environmental impacts, especially on the water needed to produce it. You need a lot more water for animals then for growing soy and other plant based proteins- producing livestock consumes as much as 2,000 gallons per pound. Both air and water pollution are also a side effect of meat production. Thus cutting back on meat cuts back greatly on your carbon footprint.
Some of the recipes you can try out are Gluten Free beefless tacos, Gluten free Rosemary pecan crusted chick’n skewers, turk’y cutlet with stuffing, cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes on min spoons, or fishless filet and chips with French fries.
As for me- I have no plans on going vegan. I don’t see the need to intentionally cut entire food groups out of your diet if you don’t need to (as in, diabetes or celiac disease, etc)- but I also don’t eat meat every day. It’s not the best thing in the world for you, or the planet, and cutting back isn’t a bad thing. When you do cut back- or if you are a vegan or vegetarian, you want food that tastes good. A problem I have found with a lot of “meatless meat” products is that they taste like garbage- and I don’t care how good it is for me, if it tastes like junk, I’ll pass, thanks.
These are good- even really good. My son ate the sliders and “chicken” tenders with no issues at all- we both liked Gardien and will be eating it again.
those actually look good and the recipes sound delicious
Well, he looks like he is enjoying himself!
