Who doesn’t love a wonderful sugar cookie? I am truthfully not really a sugar cookie person, but let me tell you….this sugar cookie recipe is amazing. I always make them fairly thick and they seem to stay soft and good at all times! I made these last week for Valentine’s Day (about 70+ hearts) and not a single one was wasted.
Sugar Cookie Recipe:
- 1 Cup Oleo or Butter
- 1 Cup Shortening
- 1 Cup Powdered Sugar
- 1 Cup White Sugar
- 2 Eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 4 1/2 Cups Flour
Of course, there is always the stand mixer kept in your kitchen!
-
- Cream together the Butter and the Shortening.
- Add the Powdered Sugar and the White Sugar
- Add the remaining ingredients; eggs, vanilla, salt, baking soda, and flour.
- After the cookie dough is all mixed together you can refrigerate if you feel necessary. (I typically don’t refrigerate)
- Sprinkle some Powdered Sugar (Yes, powdered sugar) down on the table before you place the cookie dough down to roll out.
- Roll out the cookie dough almost to thickness of cinnamon roll bread thickness (thicker than you would normally do sugar cookies)
- Cut the cookies into whatever shapes you have available.
- Place on a cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 10 – 15 minutes. (I never cooked longer than 12 minutes, usually right at 10 1/2 minutes long).
- Let cool on the pan before removing to finish cooling.
- Keep repeating steps 5-9 until all cookie dough is done.
Frosting:
- 1 stick butter
- 1 Cup Powdered Sugar (+ enough to make the right consistency for your frosting)
- 1 Tablespoon Milk
- A splash of vanilla
- Mix all of the above ingredients together. Keep adding a little milk or powdered sugar until you have the right consistency for your frosting.
- You can add food coloring if you want to decorate them.
These cookies are absolutely amazing. I hope that your family will enjoy them as much as my family enjoys them. Remember Sugar cookies are good more than just at Christmas 😉 Let me know what your family and you think!
