Most people know that we love to travel, and do so as often as we can over here at Have Sippy headquarters.  We have certainly had a lot of fun on those trips, as well as made a lot of memories- and we look forward to more of both in the future.  Lately, we have been thinking about our travels and how we use them as a jumping off point for our travel resolutions for this year.

10 19 11 new 010My son and I take a lot of trips, both road trips and otherwise together.  Sometimes daddy comes, sometimes another family member(s), sometimes we go by ourselves- but we always have a lot of fun. One of his favorite road trips was to the Bob Evan’s homestead and Fall Festival- he still talks about it, and although he really liked Bob Evan’s restaurants before, he is hooked now.

pic4My grandmother went with us on that trip, and the three of us had a great time.  It was a very long drive- about 12 hours- and we of course stopped half way to get a hotel room for the night.  Neither my son nor grandmother had the constitution for a drive longer then that in one day!  It’s important to keep everyone’s ages, stages, and abilities in mind when planning a trip- road or any other kind.  Don’t overdo it, and DO stop for breaks (bathroom, food, and in general when your passengers need a break.  Everyone isn’t you, so to do something like “ban” pit stops will do no one any favors).

We continued our trip, spending a little more time in Ohio after we left the Fall Festival as well. There is a lot to see and do in Ohio, and we really enjoyed seeing more of the state.

pic5I really enjoyed spending this time with my son and grandmother- it was the first trip we had taken together as a threesome.  We made sure to include time for everyone’s favorite things and foods on the trip- including everyone’s favorite, stops at local Amish eateries.

1 24 12 trip 012Another fun road trip was to go snow tubing- we went with my husband as well on this trip, and it was a fun family adventure.  My son and husband love the snow and winter (me, not as much, haha) and they had the best time.  We spent the whole day riding the tubes as fast as they could go, and were worn out by dinnertime.

1 24 12 trip 042To do a 180 on days spent outdoors in the freezing cold, we stayed at a hotel that had an indoor water park- it was nice to be both inside and warm when the weather was (to me!) frightfully cold, haha.  I’m not sure what my son enjoyed more- the snow or the warm water?  Either way, it was a fun, balanced trip that we all enjoyed.

I think that’s really the key to a happy road trip- taking everyone’s needs and wants into consideration while you plan. If you want everyone to have a good time, you will need to include everyone’s tastes.

What do you want to do on your next family trip to make it even better then the last one?  Post here, or tweet or post to Facebook what you think would work best for you- Tag me (@HaveSippy) and  include #AlamoDriveHappy to be eligible to win this awesome prize.

Happy trails- go out and do something fun!
