In the modern day and age, there are few technological gadgets which have permeated society so fully as the smart phone. Just about every man woman and child has one, and its a model newer then yours. But with smart phones and kids comes a big, scary prospect. The internet, Facebook, Twitter and every scumbag with a computer or smart phone now has a direct line of communication with your little one. What are some ways to properly keep your child safe with a smart phone?
- Be honest. Tell them a few horror stories, hit close to home. Talk about kids their age or younger. Make the characters in your story relatable to your little ones.
- Software- you need something to help keep your kids online habits in check and keep them from becoming those people who spend more time on their phone then in real life. One such app is OurPact which brings new dynamic to the parents – child smart phone discussion.
OurPact works on the simple principle that the parents should be able to give or take access as easily and quickly and swiping a finger. No matter your parenting technique, OurPact works. Access is as easy to add and remove quickly from the parents app. The app not only limits internet usage, but also usage of the phone in general. No longer will the kids be able to play angry birds at dinner time, but will have to have manners and discuss their day just like mom and dad did. This scheduling not only blocks out the phone, but also brings it in to a modern day. This is taught with the phrase, “there is a time and a place for everything”. This includes cell phones and electronics in general. School and family time is no place for cell phones, but hanging out with friends (or finding kids who are) or to quickly look something up for a homework assignment, having a smart phone is indispensable.
wow i think that might work great idea!
