When you are getting a new furry buddy for the house, there are many things to think about. Everyone thinks of food, toys, treats, a leash, etc. Something important to remember is a crate or carry container for your new fur buddy. Crates are a great investment because they can keep your dog safe, keep them from getting too anxious when you are away, and keep your destructive little buddy from getting at those new speakers. Or spite pooping on the bed. You know. Fun stuff.
Sometimes mistakes happen, and they are unavoidable. Maybe you dropped a glass, which of course flew everywhere- so how do you keep your dog out of the room while cleaning up and trying not to cut yourself at the same time? That would be another good reason for a crate. Contain your little buddy and clean away. You can also use a carrier for trips to the vet, the groomer, and road trips. (For bigger dogs, you will need a seat belt vest or the like, unless you have room for a very large crate.)
Crates are great not only for young dogs and cats, but are also great for adult dogs. Our newly adopted dog now loves his crate. It is a bed room, a safe haven, and also just someplace to keep his toys. Cooper loves his crate. It is properly sized (maybe on the larger size), giving the pooch enough room while still being cozy for him, with bedding to line it and make it comfortable. The main reason Cooper has the crate is because he gets separation anxiety and starts to destroy things and howl when no one is around. One of the things that keep him sane when no one is around is his crate. It has blankets, a dog bed, and his toys- it is just the best place to hang out while Mom, Dad and the kiddo are out and about. We also have a Kong that we fill with a treat that we give him in his crate only when we leave, which makes him feel that maybe us leaving is not so bad after all.
No matter what the reasons, a crate is a necessity when training your dog or cat. Pets love a place of their own. Might as well make this place as nice a possible and crate train them for their safety and comfort. For more details on crate training check out PetSmart’s Crate Training.
Also be sure to check out all the crates at PetSmart, where no matter what size your critter the right crate is a store or click away.
lol he looks like a little king in that bed
Crate training was a huge part of our puppydom. It helped everyone, puppy included, know where their spaces were in the house.
How cute! Glad your sweet puppy got some goodies 🙂 I always go to PetSmart, too!

Diary of a Debutante
We love going to PetSmart just to see all the animals people bring in! We bought our last pet there, a parakeet, and couldn’t be happier.
We do not have any animals. Looks like Petsmart has a great selection of goodies for pets!
Our dog loves his crate and actually goes right to it and stays there with the door open. I agree that there are time you need to keep your pet safe or out of the way and a crate is a great option!
What a cute dog!
