Choosing your travel accessories can be a challenge, even for those who travel regularly. With so many products to choose from, it’s hard to decide what’s necessary and what’s better off left at home. To keep your bags lighter and your trips more convenient, we’ve put together a list of 10 items that belong in everyone’s luggage:

1. Travel Converter

A travel converter allows the use of North American electronics overseas with charging conversion from 220V to 110V. For non-dual voltage items like your hairdryer, flat iron, laptop charger, etc., your travel converter is going to be a lifesaver. Many travel converters also feature commonly used overseas plug adaptors as well as USB ports, so no matter where you’re staying, you can still use your own products.

2. Theft Prevention Bags & Wallets

When you’re abroad, it’s wise to keep identity protection in mind. In 2012, the Bureau of Justice Statistics found that financial loss due to identity theft in the United States alone totaled a staggering $25 billion. While identity theft can occur anywhere, traveling with credit cards, passports, ID’s and other personal items can put you at a higher risk. Tourists are an easy target, and it’s best to stay vigilant to avoid theft.

Travel bags have adapted to meet these security needs. Many include tough, cut-resistant straps, tamper proof zippers, and even material that blocks credit card and passport scanners to protect your information.

3. Travel Garment Steamer

Tight packing is inevitably going to lead to wrinkles in your clothes. Solve the problem with a travel-sized garment steamer, easier to use than an iron and without the worry of burning your fingers. Compact, light, and simple to use, travel garment steamers let you look your effortless best while you’re traveling.

4. Noise Canceling Headphones

On the plane or on the ground, noise canceling headphones can give you a little serenity no matter where you are. If you want to listen to your music without background noise or just shut out the world for a little while, noise canceling headphones can keep you calm in even the most hectic environments.

5. Tissues & Wipes

Wipes are always a smart thing to throw in your travel bag. Different countries have different approaches when it comes to providing tissues, so having one in your bag is a sanitary essential. Biodegradable and septic safe, flushable sanitary wipes are safe for the environment and a lifesaver on the road.

6. Portable Air Purifier

Traveling to a new locale can wreak havoc on your allergies. Bring a small travel air purifier to filter the air at your hotel to remove airborne allergens, bacteria, and viruses. They produce clean air to help you breathe easier, regardless of the local allergens.

7. Compact First Aid Kit

Accidents are impossible to predict, so it’s best to be prepared in the event that you’re far from medical assistance. Travel-sized first aid kits that you can carry in a backpack are perfect for remote activities like hiking and camping. You can address minor injuries like blisters or scrapes without hassle, or temporarily treat something more serious until medical attention arrives.

8. Insect Repellent

Different countries have different pests, and considering there are 900 thousand known species of insects, adequate protection is a must, particularly if you’re traveling to a tropical destination. Insect repellent wipes are convenient and can protect from insects carrying West Nile, Lyme disease, malaria, and more. Unlike sprays, you can pack insect repellent towelettes in your carry-on luggage, making them perfect for travel.

9. Compression Cubes

Compression cubes are a great way to maximize your luggage space. They can compress their contents down to half of their uncompressed size, making it simple to pack your clothes. Since the cubes are removable, they make unpacking and organization a breeze.

10. Microfleece Travel Blankets

Light, compact, and comfortable, microfleece travel blankets are easy to pack and perfect for catching up on your sleep while you travel. And trust us, the microfleece is going to be better than any airline blanket you find.

Whether you’re a seasoned travel veteran or a novice adventurer, this checklist should help you pack for the perfect trip. They’re sure to make your travel experience safe, convenient, and enjoyable.
