As you may know, World Stroke Day is Thursday, 10/29, so the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association and the Ad Council are helping to raise awareness about Stroke knowledge, prevention, and what to do in an emergency. Here’s why this work matters.

  • 1 in 6 people will have a stroke in their lifetime.
  • 1 in 3 Americans cannot name at least one sign of stroke.
  • When you recognize a stroke and immediately call 9-1-1, the person has a greater chance of getting to an appropriate hospital quickly and being assessed for treatment options like a clot-busting drug or clot-busting device.

We hope you’ll support the effort because together, we can end stroke.

It’s important to have the knowledge to spot a stroke F.A.S.T.

Update Brings Mid-Level Checkpoints and New Courses to Super Mario Maker

On Nov. 4, a free software update for the Super Mario Maker game brings new content to the hit title for the Wii U console. These include the ability to add mid-level checkpoints to levels, as well as the addition of Course World categories that highlight new levels from Nintendo and partner creators outside Nintendo. To date, players have uploaded more than 3.3 million levels globally, and these new features add even more ways to play and create in the game than ever before.

With the addition of mid-level checkpoints, users now have the option to add flags to their levels, allowing players to start at the selected point if they lose a life – rather than having to start over at the beginning of the level. Players can choose to edit and re-upload their own levels, or create new levels from scratch using this feature. Shaking an arrow sign item from the course parts palette will allow you to place a checkpoint flag.

Following the update, players can also insert power-ups that are dependent on Mario’s status. For example, by attaching a Super Mushroom to a Fire Flower and placing it inside a block, Mario will receive the Super Mushroom when he is small, and the Fire Flower when he is large.

The software update also introduces Event Courses in the game’s Course World online hub. Event Courses will feature levels from partner creators outside Nintendo. One of the first Event Courses will be “Ship Love,” the winning level from the “hackathon” event that was held at Facebook’s headquarters in Menlo Park earlier this year. Facebook is the first outside partner in the United States to design a level for Super Mario Maker; employees had the opportunity to design and present their creations to a panel of judges before the winning level was selected.

The level that was featured in the final round of the Omegathon event at this year’s Penny Arcade Expo event will also be available for players to experience shortly after the update goes live. New Event Courses will be added to the listing on an ongoing basis, some of which may even feature new Mystery Mushroom transformations. Additionally, a new Official Makers section in Course World will be added after downloading the update, featuring specially selected courses, including some created by Nintendo.

The free software update goes live on Nov. 4. For more information about Super Mario Maker, visit http://supermariomaker.nintendo.com/.

What can we expect from commodities in future?

This is a guest post from Medica Depot.  All opinions are their own.

It is no secret that markets have gone through various changes in last couple of years. Similarly to any other market crash, this one forced people to be more conservative and cautious about their money. Paper cash is no longer desired. Stocks and bonds also lost popularity given that these financial instruments are always connected to economy of a particular country. Simply put, investors are no longer sure where to invest. Most of them believe that the money will slowly start shifting towards Arabic and Asian countries. As a result, USA and Europe will further lose steam. Consequently, all companies that are bond to these continents will experience drop in sales and thus, profit.

Entire crisis started by people being too liberal. Prices were inflated and individuals were prepared to trade and loan without limit. At one point, it all went down bringing enormous losses to both companies and individuals. Logical reaction which would appear after that is fear. Investors were no longer prepared to test their luck with same financial instruments. Suddenly, dollar and euro seamed flimsy. As a way to protect themselves, individuals started putting their money into commodities.

Investing is a normal concept that allows us to constructively use our money. Those who are making more than they need are able to use those resources to finance companies and even governments and municipalities. Of course, it also allows them to increase their wealth. Investing is much better option than having money lying around. Even though stocks and bonds show their unreliable side, shrewd investors realized that commodities are the future. Global economy is slowly shifting towards resources. This is to be expected because they will be depleted sooner than later. Unlike money, which can be printed without end, resources such as gold, oil, wheat have substantial value that can be cashed in at any time. Regal Assets review shows us that experts from this company trust commodities and are anticipating future increase in value of various commodities. However, have in mind that similar can happen to us if we overprice these resources. In other words, even though commodities are irreplaceable, they still should have some proper value.

Have in mind that we are investing more and more into natural resources and energy. We, as a global society, are seeking cleaner, better solutions that will allow us to do our job. Besides commodities, economic experts believe that companies that are dealing with energy are going to rise enormously in following years. In a sense, this is also connected to commodities and global shifts. Our planet is getting older and older. So does global population. In terms, this means that we will have more, older mouth to feed in future. Given that we have limited resources that are slowly being depleted; we are no longer able to use them as we did previously. This especially pertains to fossil fuels. As a result, we will have to rely more on naturally produced energy and resources. It yet remains to be seen how this will be managed and if we manage it properly, will it cause prices of precious metals and fossil fuels to drop.

The Smile From A Flower

Flowers can make any occasion special. You can send flowers to someone for a birthday, anniversary or holiday. There are events in life where you can send a flower to show that you are thinking of someone when you don’t know of the right words to say, such as a funeral. A florist is someone who can create a special arrangement for the event that you have in mind. You can tell the florist of the flowers that you want used or let the florist come up with an idea. There are some arrangements that are already made if you only want something simple.

Most florists will let you add something to the arrangement to make it special, such as a stuffed animal or a small box of candy. You can also include the arrangement with a larger item that completes a present. One benefit of ordering flowers from a florist is that you can have the arrangement sent to someone without the person knowing of the sender. Florists can make bouquets for weddings and corsages for proms. Items can be delivered to the location so that you don’t have to pick up several different flower arrangements at one time.  If you are interested and would like to learn more just look up florists on the web to find the best florist for any occasion.

How to Introduce a New Cat to Your Home

Bringing home a new cat is often an exciting experience for you and your family, but the other pets you have in your home may not feel the same way. It usually takes some time for your existing pets to acclimate themselves to your new cat or kitten. Knowing how to introduce your new pet can keep that cat and your current pets happy and safe.

Set Aside a Spare Room

The best way to introduce your new cat to your home is with a private place for that cat. Set aside a room just for that cat. You can use your bedroom, a spare guest room, the laundry room or even a bathroom. Place a new litter box, food and water dishes and some toys for the cat. This lets your new pet feel more comfortable living in your home and lets your other cats get used to the scent of a new cat.

Take Things Slow

It’s important that you take things slow and give your pets the time they need to get to know each other. Let the new kitten out of its room for a few minutes at a time, and step back. Give the cats time to sniff each other and check each other out. Slowly increase the amount of time you let the new kitten out of the room every day. Giving your pets time to see and be around each other ensures that they can live together happily.

Getting a new pet is a big deal and takes a lot of hard work. You should always educate yourself on the animals you are bringing home before and after they arrive. Whether it is a new cat, bird, or if you are interested in getting one of the best guard dogs  available, you should gain plenty of knowledge beforehand by checking out a pet care website or by purchasing a book on pet training and care.

What’s your favorite Halloween animal? Boo at the Zoo is back!

Fall is officially in gear, which means it’s time for some of our favorite things. Pumpkin-flavored treats, apple picking, and of course, Halloween! It’s never too early to start planning the perfect spooky costume, or tricky outing. At the top of our list is the Bronx Zoo’s Boo at the Zoo. Starting October 3, our favorite event is back every weekend in October! Boo at the Zoo is THE destination for family friendly fun for Halloween.

What good is the perfect animal costume without somewhere to show it off? One of the highlights of Boo at the Zoo is always the costume parade. The Alice Farley Dance Company will lead the way again, and their costumes are always a treat, dressed as snakes, bats, beautiful butterflies, and more.

Craving more for Halloween? There are plenty of other activities to enjoy! How about a stroll through the Jack ‘O Lantern Illumination? The intricately lit jacks make for a unique trip through the zoo’s World of Darkness exhibit.  Make sure to scoop up some candy from a treat station on your way to a music or magic show. Or, head over to the Dancing Crane Café, where Sand Sculpture USA is creating detailed carvings from giant pumpkins – some over 600 pounds! It was a big crowd pleaser last year for our family, so we’ll definitely stop by again.

If you’re not in the Bronx, stop by another borough for their version of Boo at the Zoo. Queens Zoo and Prospect Park Zoo both have Halloween activities to let visitors get up close with animals, from the creepy to the cute. And for those who prefer an aquatic take on the holiday, the New York Aquarium’s Ascarium is back this year! Don a costume and head to your favorite event.
