The new series that just started streaming on Amazon last month, The Other F Word, is a comedic inspiration to all women, and especially women over 40.
Caytha Jentis, a screenwriter, director and producer takes some amazing characters and immediately pulls us into this new series. Even if you aren’t a woman over 40, you will be eventually, and Caytha shows us that there is nothing wrong with that number – or any number that comes after it.
‘The Other F Word’ is an edgy comedy about a group of friends who find that the angst of raising kids may be nothing compared to the angst of starting over after they are grown. Amazon reviewers are raving about the new series – a unique story line with universal stories that all can relate to. And who doesn’t love to pull up a glass of wine and a blanket and binge watch a great comedy on Amazon? There are already women in line waiting for season 2. Amazon makes it simple to stream and get hooked until the very last episode.
I love the fact that Caytha has the nerve to bring out chatter on ageism in Hollywood. It is something that needs to happen more and more. She is working see women take on a fearless attitude in life – and I couldn’t agree more. The series was released on September 1st and it has been a huge success so far.
Caytha began this journey because she felt the same struggle that most women feel when life changes what feels like SO suddenly. “It was bittersweet that my children were now grown, and felt a huge void, but it was also finally ME time. I was ready for new adventures. However like the young women on “Girls,” who are struggling to find themselves, I was as confused as they were by the existential ‘Who am I?’ and the ‘Now What?’ of mid-life.”
It is understandable, too. There really is a market for this kind of show – whether Hollywood thinks so or not. Think about the shows on TV, on Netflix, and on other streaming networks – is there a show you can think of that is even remotely similar to The Other F Word? Probably not. There have been shows about women friends during most of the other stages of life, there is no episodic show that depicts the experience these ladies have in their particular stages of life.
The exhilarating new series whose cast includes names such as: Steve Guttenberg (Police Academy), Michael Boatman (The Good Wife), Reiko Aylesworth (24), Judy Gold (Jim Gaffigan Show) and Ben Bailey (Cash Cab), addresses issues like ageism, sexism, re-entering the workforce, sexuality for women 40+, dating after divorce/widowhood and more.
