There is no doubt that sailing is one of the nation’s oldest pastimes. Some people enjoy the refreshing, relaxing breeze of being out upon the water. Others love the thrill and bursts of adrenaline that competing in an intense regatta provides. No matter what your reasons for being a sailing enthusiast, New Jersey has a plethora of different sailing clubs situated all over the state which promote the sport and are aimed at helped members advance their skills.
As a state with a lot of shoreline, New Jersey has no shortage of water activities. While this list is not all-inclusive, here are six of the state’s most popular organizations:
Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club – Located in Atlantic Highlands on Sandy Hook Bay, the Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club was founded in 1953. The club plays host to a number of different events each year such as the J/24’s Blue Water Regatta and several US Olympic finals.
Cooper River Yacht Club – Founded by a small group of sailboat enthusiasts in 1945, the Cooper River Yacht Club prides itself on opening its doors to members from all aspects of life, not just the wealthy and social elite. To join, you do not necessarily need to own a boat or even live in the state of New Jersey. They club also offers beginner and intermediate sailing lessons for those interested in learning a little bit more about the sport.
Liberty Yacht Club – Situated just across the Hudson River from New York’s Financial Center, the Liberty Yacht Club has promoted boating and sailing on the Hudson since 1998. The club operates out of the Liberty Landing Marina and promotes weekend sailing, maritime resources and races throughout the entire year.
