Easy Ways to Improve Your Mood ASAP

There’s no denying that modern life can be stressful. As adults, we have all kinds of worries to contend with; the economy is in the toilet and job loss remains high; the job you have is demanding and fast-paced; the kids require you to be not only a nanny, but also a chauffeur, a cook, a tutor, and a counselor (parents wear many hats); and the amount of things you have to squeeze into a day is more than enough to boggle your mind (and your mood). So if you’re having trouble shaking off the stresses of the day and you’re looking for ways to improve your mood, like, yesterday, here are a few tips and tricks to help you let go of your frustrations and get back to the sunny self you fear you may have lost along the way.
  1. Change your diet. A steady influx of sugars, fats, and preservatives will only make you feel about a million years old. If your first instinct is to reach for a bag of chips and a Coke when you have to eat lunch on the go, then it’s time to seriously rethink your position on nutrition. You’ve probably heard the saying “you are what you eat” and in a way it’s true. If you weigh down your body with items that feature lots of calories but little in the way of nutrients, you’re virtually starving yourself of the feel-good elements that real foods have to offer. A diet rich in lean protein, whole grains, and the fruits and veggies that provide you with necessary vitamins is not only going to make your body feel fantastic, but it will also increase your energy and focus and dramatically improve your mood.

  2. Exercise. Whether you’re jogging, lifting weights, or hitting the yoga mat, exercise may be the [Read more…]

WIN TICKETS to “1-2-3 Imagine! with Elmo & Friends” Live Show

What kid doesn’t love Elmo? I know I grew on on Sesame Street, and though the 80’s toys and games have made a comeback- Sesame Street never really went away, did it? And thankfully so- it’s a great, educational, and wholesome show that you don’t have to be afraid to let your children watch. Another thing I love about Sesame Street? They kept it as it was. Sure, it is updated- but no one got super skinny, got giant heads or eyes, went “anime” in style, Maria and Gordon aged like normal people, and the characters all look as they should.

AND You and your child can see all your favorite friends Live in the latest stage performance- 1-2-3 Imagine 🙂
Where can your imagination take you? Anywhere you want to
be! Audiences in New Brunswick are invited to make a world of adventure come to life with
Elmo, Abby Cadabby and friends as the stage lights come up on Sesame Street Live “1-
2-3 Imagine! with Elmo & Friends”. This imagination-inspired musical will make a stop at
the State Theatre from Thursday, April 12, through Sunday, April 15. Tickets for all eight

How to Manage Your Child’s Daily Schedule

Most parents these days are blown away by the demands on their child’s time. When you were a kid, you went to school and you came home. Maybe you played a sport or suffered through piano lessons once a week, but for the most part afternoons were whiled away with friends until dinner time, and then it was on to homework, a bath, and bed. Today it seems like kids are going from sunup until midnight, with a schedule jam-packed with schooling, extracurricular activities galore (sometimes two or more a day), stacks of homework that rivaled your college curriculum, and very little time left over for friends, sleep, or anything else. Play-dates, something you never even heard of as a kid, now have to be scheduled far in advance so they fit into the mix. So when it comes to managing your child’s schedule you may find yourself at something of a loss; after all, it’s not like you signed up to be a personal assistant when you decided to start a family. If you’re struggling to get your child’s crazy timeline under control, here are a few tips to make the calendar manageable.

The best place to start is by paring it down. Your child may be keen to pursue all sorts of interests, but if he’s not hitting the hay until long after sundown and the lack of sleep is starting to affect everyone, then it’s definitely time to take the upper hand and limit his activities. You don’t have to stifle your child’s creativity or drive to do this, either. Simply allow him to choose one or two interests at a time [Read more…]

7 Fun Travel Shots

Travel photos do things to you, don’t they? They take you away, bring you back into a happy memory- or inspire you to see a new place or culture.
Jessie Voigts of Wandering Educators invited me to take part in in HostelBookers 7 Super Shots – where each travel blogger shares 7 of their favorite shots with you all. Now- you are getting stuck with what I have (since losing some from my hurricane experience recently, LOL) but whatever- travel is travel, and it’s all wonderful.

Come dream of far off (or maybe not so far off) places with me, and plan for your next getaway!

A photo that…takes my breath away…

It’s the Taj Mahal- what else can I say? The beauty of the Taj took my breath away- literally- and brought tears to my eyes. By now I think you know I am not an overly emotional, cry at the sunset type of girl. But this was the most beautiful (man made) thing I have ever seen, hands down. I wasn’t expecting it to be so moving, and so it took me by surprise. It wasn’t even the “reason” I went to India- just a nice perk! But the Taj is a must see- go!

A photo that…makes me laugh or smile…

This was the first time these orphanage kids in Eastern Europe had ever played with bubbles. You all know by now that I spent a lot of time volunteering in orphanages, and it never ceased to amaze me at the things that would just amaze THEM. In other ways, the kids were just so grown up….

Tyson Breakfast Bread Bowls #TysonBreakfast #Cbias @TysonFoods

Have you ever been in a pinch in the morning? I mean a real pinch, where breakfast should have been eaten and everyone should have been on the road 20 minutes ago, but everyone is just waking up? The kind of bind where the breakfast you were planning and really wanting is definitely not happening, and now it’s granola bars for everyone! What if I told you there was a way to go from hungry to breakfast in less than one minute.? Ahhh, nice- quick and easy breakfast.

We recently had the pleasure of trying the new Tyson breakfast bread bowls. These bowls are full of egg, bacon, and cheese all wrapped up in a wonderful bowl made out of a biscuit. These are perfect for the grab and go breakfast or even just the grab and sit breakfast. We enjoyed them on a lazy Saturday morning with coffee for the adults and juice for the kids. It is a bit on the small size, but the plus side is it cooks fast, and is perfect for little hands.

They cooked very quickly. [Read more…]
