Bullying is no laughing matter. This is especially true of parents to sensitive children. Yes, maybe some kids could toughen up and such, but is getting made fun of and beat up the way to toughen up? I don’t think so. I feel kids should grow into their own self worth by feeling confident in themselves, never hurt and alone. There are lots of different techniques and ideas about this, each parent is different- as is each child. However, they all share a common thread, the desire to get active and be aware of your kids surroundings. This is easy to say at home, where we can keep an eye on our kids, most times. But what happens at school where parents are not there to protect their children, and the teachers are the responsible adults? How can a teacher hope to contain a group of 30 kids and get them to learn and get them to get along?
How about a little help from the inter-webs. Take a look at, Mentoring Minds and their bullying prevention program and classroom management solutions. Not only are there guides on bulliying in the classroom but also cyber bullying but also a guide on differentiation for grades K through 12. There is also an ADD/ADHD wheel to help teachers guide their students in a more successful manner.
The behavior guide is a very interesting product which not only shows techniques add strategies to create a good learning environment but also has hundreds of ready to use practical solutions for classroom settings. Each guide can be used by seasoned or new teachers and would make a great gift for those special educators in our lives who have worded concerns over issues in the classroom or just show concern when bullying is involved in local news stories.
Worded best by Mentoring Minds, “Effective teaching and learning cannot occur in a poorly managed classroom. The most important component in the prevention of misbehavior is to create and maintain a positive and welcoming school climate. Classroom management resources help promote a safe, secure, and positive learning environment for all.”
As parents it is our job to help our children understand their self worth. When they are teased or bothered by a bully it is also still part of being a parent to teach our children how to handle a bully and that what others may be saying about them does not matter. It is not a one time talk with your child but an on going process from toddler to teen. If parents teach their children how to deal with life they will never feel lost. I think so much of the problems today are because so many children don’t know how to deal with hurt, anger, failure and so many other issues we encounter in life then they cannot handle so many pressures as they become older. Letting every child win a race, and giving everyone a trophy just for trying does not do that. You can never learn to be a gracious winner if you never win, and you can not ever learn to NOT be a sore looser if you always win. I think bullying is a very serious matter, but I think some times people want to try and stop bullying so much they forget to teach kids how to deal with it when it does happen, because it will happen.
What great information on such a very important topic.
Everyone needs to take bullying seriously, and not just pass it off as something kids do.
