My son is just having the best time at Oasis Day Camp- the first week flew by. This is the first time that he has ever been away from me- I know, GASP!- and I am sure that I am annoying the junk out of a few of the counselors, but….cest la vie, I’m trying to behave! Hehe, isn’t it always the parents that are worse then the kids? π
The kids are separated by age, and have quite a few counselors in each group. As I had mentioned in my first post, there are no high school students at this camp- only college age and above. Many of the staff are teachers or training to be teachers. That really makes me feel good, because I know that my angel is in good hands. I’m still a little nutty, but the staff is nice to me and I am sure used to crazy parents (LOL, oh, now I’m on the other side! I have always been the one dealing with the nutty parent, not the aforementioned, ha!)
As soon as I drop him off, one of the staff members immediately engages him in a kickball game with a buddy in his group. No time like the present for having fun! This counselor is one of Little Man’s favorites, he talks about him all the time. I love knowing that he likes the Oasis staff. When I drop him off, every single morning, everyone talks to him, fully engaged, all smiles, and asks him about his day, what he did the night before, and gets him laughing. They are all super, super friendly- even at 8:15 in the morning π

The schedule is both varied and fully packed, but there is definitely down time so the campers don’t get exhausted. There is a pool for swim lessons (for non-swimmers) or swimming, art, adventure, nature, drama, dance, sports, and group time. Every day is begun with an AM Rally, and ended with a PM rally. This consists of camp cheers, songs, and shout outs (this can be for birthdays, thank you’s, and “good jobs”, as well as when a camper passes a milestone, such as a deep water test).
Every week has a fun day and an event as well- this week it was Crazy Hat/Hair day where the kids and staff all wore funny hats or wild hairdos, and Gold Rush, where the campers had to go on a scavenger hunt to find all the pieces of “gold” to spell out “Oasis” and win the prize- ice pops! There were no losers, however, so it was fun for everyone.

and the winning “booty”- ice pops for everyone! |
On a hot summer day, nothing beats ice pops with your new best buddies once you found all the gold hidden at the local campgound. Stay tuned for week 2 at Oasis- I know this week will be as action packed as the last π
It looks like so much fun.

Sounds like a lot of fun! I bet he is having an amazing time.
Looks like a great time for the kids!
I never experienced any sort of camp as a kid (I know, I know) and I’m not sure how many they have here in Southern CA – but this definitely makes me want to check some out!
How cute! It really does take a special kind of person to be chipper at 8AM.
The GoldRush sounds fun!
nice camp!
Sounds like a blast! Lots of activities to keep him and the other kids busy! π
What a great place to have to send him to for your first time apart – I wanna go! What a big boy he is getting to be.
What fun! I’m with you though about being particular about who is in charge of the kids! lol Glad he’s getting to have a great time!
He looks like he is having the best time. I wish we had a good day camp around here. I love that it begins and ends with a supportive event, it makes kids want to come back. ;0)
