Diet is very important for kids and adults alike. In a time when childhood obesity is on the rise, encouraging your children to eat healthy is more critical than ever. Unhealthy eating habits can lead to serious complications later in life, which are amplified by environmental factors and other lifestyle decisions that we make every day. To keep yourself and your children health, stick to a diet of nutritious foods that are enjoyed by all ages.
-Wholesome Cereals
Breakfast truly is the most important meal of the day. Starting off the day on a positive note doesn’t necessarily ensure a good day, but it certainly doesn’t hurt. A healthy bowl of cereal is a quick and easy way to get the nutrition you need in the morning, and can be enjoyed by both kids and their parents. Many cereals are too sugary to be daily staples, but the more wholesome options are always great. Look for cereals that incorporate whole grains. They are loaded with vitamins, high in fiber, and enjoyable at all ages.
-Fresh Squeezed Juice
Nutrition is equally important for children and adults, and one of the best ways to get the nutrients your bodies need is through fruits and vegetables. Of course, kids are notorious for their aversion to the veggies that will serve them well, and many adults suffer from this same affliction. Incorporating vegetables into a fresh squeezed glass of fruit juice is a great way to get around this problem. Start juicing at home to get your kids hooked on healthy drinks and do yourself a favor at the same time.
-Healthy Snacks
Three square meals a day is enough for most of us, but when those cravings set in between meals, a healthy snack is the best way to sate your appetite and improve your health at the same time. Rice cakes are a great healthy snack that kids and parents can both enjoy. The classic setup of celery with peanut butter and raisins is another great option. It’s tasty, easy to prepare, and fun to eat. Stock your refrigerator with yogurt as well for another nourishing snack to keep old and young stomachs alike full between lunch and dinner.
-Nourishing Sandwiches
Sandwiches are great for lunch or any time of day. They’re also very easy to customize, so it’s almost impossible to find a kid or parent who can’t enjoy a good sandwich. Use whole grain breads in sandwiches to promote a healthy diet. The old standby of peanut butter and jam is a great sandwich for all ages, but substituting fresh fruit or berries makes it even better. For other options, try incorporating lean meats and lots of veggies. Lettuce, tomato, and avocado are all great ingredients for a healthy and tasty sandwich.
-Dinner Time Favorites
Ordering pizza from Just Eat or other services is a great solution to the problem of cooking dinner. Unfortunately, too much pizza is bad for both kids and their parents, but the occasional pie is a great food that everyone can enjoy. Skip the common meat toppings and opt for vegetables for a more health conscious meal. This is the perfect solution for the kid or parent who can’t be coerced into finishing dinner.
Obesity is my rant! Unfortunately it’s become a self-inflicted condition of being American. We are a fast-food, make-it-in-an-instant nation. Good nutrition is all about moderation, if you deprive yourself now, you will gorge later!
My son loves broccoli as his favorite food.
My kids love pizza, chicken nuggets not sure it’s all that healthy but they also love grapes, carrots, pepper strips.
Pizza is always a huge hit here. Trying to get my kids to branch out on the topic selection!
