A few days ago, we were given the honor of checking out the new Build A Bear Workshop. This new workshop is more interactive and technology driven. Lots of touch screens and motion activated activities, while still keeping the joy and fun of building a plush toy.
This new workshop is built around the idea that children are interacting with their world in brand new ways, keyboards and controllers are becoming dinosaurs, replaced with touchscreen and motion controls. Build A Bear took notice and emphasized the most smile inducing parts of their workshops with new interactive electronic elements. This includes a new bath tub to clean your plush, that pictures a whirlpool effect when the tub is “draining”, virtual ripples in the water being formed around any object placed on the tub, and rubber duckies with little kicking legs . In the tub, there is a touch screen which interacts with your plush and a few interesting bath time essentials. Items in the tub include a small boat which leaves waves, a rubber duck which kicks its feet (which I already mentioned, but is so darn cute), and a bar of soap which makes a ton of little bubbles. These make bath time for your plush almost as fun as bath time at home, but a lot less wet for the stuffie. Build A Bear also has brand new heart stations and naming stations as well as a sound recording machine. These are all a bit bigger, brighter, and easier for kids to use with huge touch screens and magical experiences.
Build A Bear lets you stuff a plush from the soft shell to the filling, including a heart full of love, the prefect name, clothing, accessories and even a nifty box-house to bring your new toy home. This is tracked using a bar code attached to the bear- and goes inside the bear so it can always be determined as your own, and at every step your child is greeted by their name and their new plush’s name as well.
All the changes are a welcome addition to an already fun store for kids to go to. Little Man loves Build A Bear and loves going in and seeing all their new plush. Since he loves his baths and music, his favorites were obvious- the new sound machine and the bath tub. He really liked the rubber duck and boat in the tub as well.
I am going to keep an eye out for the new workshop roll out, because it is going to be great fun seeing the store full of kids playing and having fun. For a good look check out this video from Engadget:
