This is a quick meal to prepare that will fill the family up. They load the cheese on and I like to add fresh basil to it but no matter what there are never any left overs with it. Makes the messy production of making the meal worth the empty plates after dinner.
Ingredients for meatballs
1 egg beaten
1 / 4 cup fat free milk
1/ 2 cup dry bread crumbs
2 tbsp. freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1 / 2 tsp. salt
1/ 4 teaspoons pepper
1 / 8 teaspoon garlic powder
3 /4 lb lean ground beef
1 /2 lb pork sausage
Ingredients for Sauce
150z tomato sauce
6 oz tomato paste
1 onion chopped finely
1 /2 cup green and red pepper
1 / 2 cup red wine
1 / 3 cup water
3 garlic cloves minced finely
1 tsp. oregano
1 / 2 tsp salt
1/ 2 tsp sugar
Directions
Combine eggs and milk. Add in the bread crumbs, seasonings and cheese. Add in the meats and mix well between each addition. Shape into 1” balls and sauté in a skillet till brown. To make sauce combine all the ingredients and set in a pot to heat through. Transfer the browned meatballs ( should be browned on all sides ) into the sauce and heat on medium low till meatballs are cooked through. 25 minutes to 30 minutes tops at best not even. Serve over your favorite noodles or make a meatball sub out of them ( my kids favorite! )
