People usually adopt a new exercise program in order to be able to wear their favorite outfits. However, you don’t have to wait until those extra pounds are off to be stylish. You can show off fashion flair anywhere, including the gym. Here are five ways to look your best even while working out.

workout clothes1. Choose Comfortable-Fitting Fabrics

Your workout gear won’t be stylish or effective if you’re constantly tugging and pulling at the seams. If it bunches, rolls, pinches, or constricts, then it doesn’t fit. The same goes for clothing that is oversized. It makes you look bigger than what you actually are and may even hinder your mobility.

As for the material itself, make sure the fabric is breathable. Natural fibers such as cotton work well, but you might choose to invest in a moisture-wicking synthetic fabric. Clothes made from these materials keep you cool when you’re hot and keep you warm if you exercise outdoors.

2. Add Color

Don’t stick to dreary grays or boring blacks just because you’re in the process of sculpting your body. Opt for vivid colors. Try patterns, too. Color can liven up an otherwise dull outfit, as well as draw attention to what you want to show off and hide what you don’t.

3. Dress In Layers

Not only is the layered look fashionable, but it’s also functional. Wear items that you can easily pull on or off during exercise. The new denim range from Tommy Hilfger is a good option for style when you’re out doors hiking. If you’re outdoors running, dress in thin layers that absorb moisture and allow.

Climate and body temperature aside, though, wearing layers is a stylish option for those who are conscious about baring their bodies in tight fitting fabrics.

4. Wear Functional Accessories

Leave the jewelry and expensive watches at home. Your accessories need to be functional and able to withstand a workout. Opt for a sportswatch with a timer, pedometer, and calorie counter. Have an MP3 player? Look for cases that allow you to strap the device onto your arm or waistband while you jog.

5. Look For Utilitarian Features

No one can exercise effectively if they’re holding their keys, credit cards, and cell phone the entire time. Look for clothing that has pockets or side compartments that allow you to stash your belongings comfortably and safely.

Next time you shop for workout gear, apply these five tips and you’ll be looking cool no matter how hard you sweat!
