What does that term mean? Nothing to pay when you get there? That’s mainly the case, but you do need to check what it includes before you go.

No-brainers

Let’s start with the weather which is always an important consideration for a holiday. The sunshine and warm temperatures are free! Expect temperatures in the late 20s and 30s during the summer period in Crete. You’ll need your sunscreen to protect and your shades to look cool.

Food and drink

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are usually served in the hotel’s main restaurant. Mostly these are buffet style often with elements cooked to order. During the day snacks are often served at poolside bars and range from pizza to sandwiches. These are ‘all on the house’ – though you’ve already paid for them in your package price! You’ll probably also be treated to a Greek Night, a Cretan BBQ or other gastronomic feasts.

Your free meals will be served in the main restaurant. If your hotel has a la carte restaurants you may be entitled to eat in these on a restricted scheme or you may have to pay a supplement.

Many of your drinks will be on the house too. These include local beers and spirits and house wines, as well as soft drinks.

Sporting facilities

Many hotels and resorts on Crete offer a number of facilities with free use. These might include swimming pools, gyms, beach volleyball, water polo, mini golf, boules and table tennis. Children’s clubs are usually free. Some resorts offer free extras such as Greek language lessons or dancing lessons.

Chargeables

It’s tempting to assume that you are entitled to everything on offer with no charge. But this is rarely the case.

It is almost certain that branded spirits, champagne and sometimes fresh juices will incur a charge. We’ve mentioned the al la carte restaurants already; sometimes special gastronomic nights incur a supplement too. The equipment you need to take part in a particular sport is often chargeable such as surfing equipment. All sports’ lessons will carry a charge. If you need a car Rental Center Crete, that should not be hard to find.

Guests are sometimes asked for a deposit for beach towels and baby sitting, usually only available on request, may incur a charge. Be sure to check all of these possibilities out before you go if possible. This way your whole party will know what to expect and you can set your on-site budgets. Make the most of it, it’s free!
