There’s no better way to see Scotland than by car. The roads are in fantastic condition and many of them are thrilling driving roots snaking through the untouched and awe-inspiring country side. The country will also be opened up to you on the road meaning you can see vast quantities of the country within a reasonably short space of time.

Plan your trip around a central theme

When looking to explore an entire country, it’s important to have a focus around which you plan the journey. There are plenty of ways to do this in Scotland though one of the most popular is taking a tour around the world-famous distilleries.

Even if you are not particularly a huge fan of whiskey, there will be plenty at these locations to enjoy. The history of these places is fascinating and the smells and views even more so. You’ll also get the chance to buy some gifts for those back home that are sure to be cherished deeply.

Preparing and saving

By preparing in advanced, you can ensure a smooth trip and a greater chance of staying within budget. Knowing exactly where you’re going to go and at what point within the trip will ensure you can book hotels and B+Bs well in advance and avoid paying over the odds.

In order to save enough money to indulge on an evening or on special treats, take plenty of long-life food to eat at breakfast and lunchtime. Booking a B+B is also a great way to save money and enjoy a hearty breakfast if you want to sample some of Scotland’s finest food.

Keep the kids happy

Scotland is the ideal place to take a road trip with your children but there will be times between destinations when they need to be entertained. This can be simply done and does not necessarily require expensive gadgets.

Road games such as I-spy are not only entertaining but will help them learn about new sights during their first visit. Meanwhile, downloadable printable games let them play classic games such as hangman and noughts and crosses.
