Stand Up For Family

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of American Family Insurance for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Stand Up For Family is a Family safe comedy series  brought to us by AmFam .  Most of the videos are quite good and will at least get a chuckle out of you, if not a full on laugh out loud laugh.  I found it most interesting to see BIll Bellamy doing stand up and actually enjoying it!!  I liked the skit about taking a bath, did this hit home? not really but it was funny thinking of a little Belamy setting traps for his grandma.  Think that is a crazy description, check it out  .  I would also suggest taking a look around and finding possibly a new favorite comedian or two. Stand Up For Family Most of them you will not have heard of which is refreshing, because their skits are new, I’m looking at you Carlos Mencia.  These videos don’t really hit home for me but they do remind me of the silly things that can happen in your home, if you can take a step back and laugh at them.  Sure your little one running around the house completely naked after a bath while friends are over is embarrassing but if you look at it a different way it is ridiculous and quite funny.  It is very nice to see an insurance company taking a not so serious look at life, especially with all the serious issues we all deal with every day.  Thank you American Family Insurance for reminding me the funniest stories are often under our roofs.

ThinkGeek – Captain America and a Jawa Arrive

Share

Hello all and welcome to another episode of Awesome from ThinkGeek here at Daddy’s Corner.  In today’s episode we will discuss the age old question- can Daddy actually be Captain America?  As well as “what do Jawa’s actually say?”

Halloween is coming upon us very quickly and now is the time to get creative and get spooky/witty/ unbelievable and most of all have a good time.  We have a big resident dork in house (cough cough) and I like the new Captain America movie with a passion, and am actually marking off the days until the Avengers movie comes out.  There are rumblings of an alien race being included in the movie, maybe some Skrull or Kree, so cool.  Back on track.  Check out this nifty sweatshirt- the Captain America hoodie.

This shirt is quite awesome.  Its colors are bright and unmistakable, its quality is good and it is official Marvel merchandise!  What I like about it is, it isn’t a heavy sweatshirt and if you do not feel like ‘doning the hood’ and being full on Captain America, it is still a great sweatshirt.  Little Man loves the shirt too, it doesn’t fit him yet but he adores when daddy is wearing it.  (Saying, ‘You aren’t a hero daddy’,  poor daddy.)  Well then he puts the hood on and, ‘Yeah Daddy’s Captain America’.  Quickly followed by a  little man ninja punch to the groan or stomach if he is lucky.

Next up is the talking Jawa, also called the 9 inch Jawa in the Star Wars Plush w/ sound category.  He is a little under the size of your average sheet of paper and is soft as anything.  Also when you activate him his eyes light up and he talks some Jawa phrases from Star Wars.  I really like the size of this little guy, he is bigger then a beanie baby yet still portable.  Another good characteristic of it is it volume, it is not very loud meaning he is not very annoying.  Plus its a Jawa, I mean out of the desert how bad can it be?  Cue Jawa invasion.

Little Man adores his new little buddy, ‘talking’ back to him in Jawa.  It is very interesting, I didn’t know we were studying Spanish and Jawa in pre-school.  Daddy, OUT!

It’s Time For Coupons! All About Saving

The following is a guest post by Outside the Box Mom:

Last week, we discussed goals when using coupons. This week, I’ve listed some common reasons why people don’t use coupons.

I Don’t Have Time

Ten years ago, I used to do my own match-ups, clip every coupon, and check prices on every item I had a coupon for to see if I could get a good deal. That was before I was married with two children. Now, I file whole coupon inserts, check store deals blogs, make my list of best deals for the week, shop with that list, and skip some unadvertised deals I happen upon in the store (because I don’t carry all of my coupons with me). One hour a week could save you 50% on your grocery bill.

I Don’t Have Any Coupons

You could ask friends, neighbors, or co-workers to save their coupons from the Sunday newspaper for you. Or, you could print coupons online from sites like Coupon Sherpa using your own computer and printer. My friends and grandparents save their coupons for me. In addition, there is a free local newspaper in my area that includes the Sunday Smart Source coupon inserts. Each week, I have at least 6-8 sets of coupon inserts.

It’s Too Overwhelming!

Start small and slow. Pick the most expensive item or the items that cost you the most collectively (because you buy them most frequently). Then, work your way up to at least 10-15 items which you could get for much less if you used coupons. Once you begin to see your grocery bill decrease and your grocery budget stretch further, you will want to try more and more deals.

No Coupon on Products I Buy

According to moneysavingmom.com: “[t]here are often coupons available for fresh fruit, vegetables, milk, flour, baking soda, toothbrushes, razors, toilet paper, and light bulbs.”

There are even coupons on pet products, organic products, restaurant meals, hair cuts, and other types of services. Many coupon blogs maintain coupon databases where you can search for coupons by brand name or item (example: “Purina” or “dog food”). While it’s fine to be brand specific on certain products (maybe 20% of items you regularly purchase), you will save the most money if you are open to other brands on the remaining 80% of items you regularly purchase.

Next week, we will discuss how you can overcome these common obstacles by changing one thing.

What makes using coupons too challenging for you?
This is an interactive series, which will feature answers to your questions. So, ask away!

We’re here! Road Trip to Bob Evans Farm Fest #Travel #Ohio

So, we made it to the Bob Evans Farm Festival.  Luckily it stopped raining, finally!  LOL.  It’s been a long 2 days to get here, but we made it!  We went to the Friends of the Farm” party, and it was so sweet.  It seemed to me like a community get-together, everyone seemed like a family.  I felt a bit “outsider”ish, being there, haha.  My son was also terrorizing me, and I was losing my mind- it was a long road trip, and when we got here, we had some “fun” issues at the hotel (more on that later!) so by the time we got there, he was SUPER tired and cranky.  No tears, just nuts!

The tents for the party were really, really pretty, and were right on the farm- there were horses about 50 feet away from the tents (fenced off) and it was a lovely night, great weather.  You can tell how much this meant to the Bob Evans team, and how much they put into it.  I will have photos to share with you all hopefully tomorrow- for now, mommy is very, very tired and wants to go to bed!  Have a good one, and more soon  🙂
