The Christmas Cookie Tour of Inns Presents
A Very Vintage Christmas

Holmes County, Ohio – Recipes of Christmas past will spice up the 4th Annual Christmas
Cookie Tour of Inns during A Very Vintage Christmas event. The tour, hosted by the Amish
Country Lodging Council, will take place on Sunday and Monday, December 4 and 5, 2011, 1-6
p.m. each day.

Twelve of Amish Country’s finest inns and bed and breakfasts will prepare classic delights
from the recipe book Festive Favorites and serve them up with 1940’s flare. Festive Favorites,
a compilation of over 350 delectable cookie recipes, features classic treats bound by country
proverbs. Not only will you find cookie recipes dating back decades, but look up Mom’s Raisin
Drop Cookies and discover that “Life is just one dumb thing after another; Love is just two
dumb things after another.” A limited number of 1st edition copies of Festive Favorites will be
available for purchase during the 4th Annual Tour.

Each stop on the self-guided tour offers patrons a specialty cookie, inspirational décor, and
music. At select locations local businesses will present food demonstrations. Eat, tour, visit,
and recapture the joy of yesteryear.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for children. Group pricing is available. Each patron will
receive entrance to participating properties and a souvenir guide with the recipes of specialty
cookies available to sample at each inn. In the spirit of Christmas giving, all net proceeds will
be donated to Hospice of Holmes County and the Love Center Food Pantry.

Festivities will conclude with a drawing for a $150 gift certificate that can be used for lodging at
one of the participating inns.

Tickets will be available starting Oct. 1, 2011. To purchase tickets or for more information, visit
www.christmascookietour.com or call the Holmes County Chamber of Commerce and Tourism
Bureau at 330-674-3975. Tickets are limited.

Want to see a fun Green Lantern Costume? Check this out!

Green Lantern might not have done as well in the box office as was expected, but that doesn’t discount the fact that the Green Lantern costume is pretty awesome. Take a look at the Men’s Deluxe Muscle Green Lantern Hal Jordon costume. This is an adult men’s costume with emphasis on the physique of Green Lantern. These muscles are both sculpted and painted so the wearer gets the look of being built like a super hero without lots of extra weight.

Included with the costume itself are the Green Lantern ring, face mask and boots. This costume fits really well and is fun to go around in. The quality is good and the material the costume is made of isn’t very heavy. So overheating isn’t [Read more…]

Bob Evans features “Farmhouse Deals”- win yours here!

We are BIG fans of Bob Evans Restaurants at this house- the only bummer is, that there is no restaurant that is nearby!  Good thing that we travel so much, or we would never get to stop in at one of our favorite places.  Priced right for a family with a budget, you won’t ever walk away hungry (or broke, either!)  As soon as you walk in, a friendly host will offer your children kids menu packages with crayons and a silly straw- they even get to choose the color  🙂   My son always take about a zillion years deliberating, LOL.  He is the biggest Bob Evans fan of all of us- as you know, he is obsessed with all things farm and Amish!  The Bob Evans we eat at most is located near one of our favorite places- Lancaster, PA (home of quite a few farms and Amish, so my son is in bliss!)  He always get the same meal- the Lil’ Farmers Breakfast, which includes 1 egg, bacon or sausage, pancakes, home fries- everything a little farmer needs!  🙂

Once this past summer, while we were in Bowling Green Kentucky at the Baymont Inn, my son saw to his delight that it shared a parking lot with a Bob Evans.  It was the day after his birthday- can I tell you how happy he was (and how many times we ended up eating there?  LOL).  At one point, at roughly 9 PM (and you all know his bedtime is always 7:30, and I don’t mess with that!) he was still awake in his bed, begging me to take him back to Bob Evans to get him a Little Farmers Breakfast.  Worn down and tired, I finally gave in.  It was almost closing time, and we had already had dinner there, so the waitress looked at me like I had 9 heads when I ordered a “to go” Little Farmers Breakfast, LOL.  What is a mommy to do?

Bob Evans now has these great “Farmhouse Deals“- featuring 10 different meals for $6 each.  Great price, right?  You can’t even get fast food for that price.  These ten meals are-

Bob Evans Sausage Gravy breakfast

Two Eggs, sausage, or bacon, and 2 biscuits,

Sausage and Biscuit Bowl

Spinach, Bacon, and tomato Biscuit Bowl

Boarder Scramble Biscuit Bowl

Homemade Meatloaf Knife and fork Sandwich

Slow Roasted Turkey knife and fork Sandwich

Chicken and Noodles Deep Dish Dinner

Spaghetti with Meat Sauce

Chicken and Broccoli Alfredo

I LOVE Bob Evans biscuits.  We don’t get a whole lot of biscuits in the area I am from, so I look forward to them when we travel.  Bob Evans also has great family style meals you can pickup and bring home for the family, perfect for those nights you don’t feel like cooking, or for holidays.

If you are in an area where there is a Bob Evans, I totally suggest you pop in and try these great Farmhouse Deals- for only $6, you really can’t go wrong.  Where else can you get a meal for that price?  A REAL meal, not a greasy drive-thru mess.  And if you are like me, and do not have a Bob Evans near you (Come on Bob!  Get over here!) that’s OK- you can do like me, and stop by next time you are traveling.  Family friendly setting, priced right for the average brood that wants to eat out and still pay the mortgage  (LOL) and they won’t make you wait long, either- thus making sure your kid(s) won’t turn into a wiggely, whiney mess  🙂

Stop on by the next time you are in town!
One of you will have the chance to try out these new meals for free- you can win here!
First Prize: Bob Evans gift card (ARV $25).
Second Prizes (5): Meal coupon.

The King Arthur Flour demos are a unique blend of baking science, tried and true tips and culinary theater; traveling baking instructors explain and entertain, inform and inspire. Attendees walk away with just enough baking science to understand how ingredients function in a recipe and why certain techniques are important to successful baking, while sharing the joy and tradition of baking at home.
“We know from customers that many otherwise confident people suffer from ‘baking anxiety,’” says National Outreach Program Manager Julie Christopher, “especially when it comes to pie crusts and baking with yeast. With a little baking knowledge, you can overcome your fear and experience the joy of baking and eating your own breads, pies and more.” King Arthur Flour has helped thousands of bakers around the country to do just that through its traveling baking demos and other educational programs.
King Arthur Flour is proud to work with partners Red Star Yeast, Cabot Creamery Cooperative, and Dansko in presenting these demos around the nation and keeping them free for participants. For more information about these King Arthur Flour partners, visit redstaryeast.com, cabotcheese.coop, and dansko.com.
With more than one million bakers having participated in its workshops, seminars and classes, King Arthur Flour is the largest educator of home bakers in the world. The company, employee-owned since 1996, conducts fall and winter traveling baking demo tours reaching thousands of bakers each year; brings demonstrations to fourth- through seventh-grade students nationwide through its Life Skills Bread Baking Program®; offers a variety of classes at its Baking Education Center in Norwich, Vt.; and publishes The Baking Sheet, an award-winning bi-monthly newsletter of recipes and baking information. An Act of Kindness Can Help Create Bully Free Schools

This information was provided to me by the sponsor- I have never personally used these products, but thought that you all may like to hear about it.

“Over the years, school districts have made attempts to implement acts of kindness programs and teach kindness lessons in an effort to alleviate the problem of bullying in schools. Bullying is a long-standing, all too common form of intimidation and stress for children. The constant alarm and anxiety felt can make it difficult for targeted children to focus or engage in a classroom, which can cause learning to become arduous and frustrating.

Boom Boom! Revolution is optimistic that with teamwork and dedication an end can be brought to this unfortunate occurrence. As part of Boom Boom! Revolution’s continuing desire to bring forth an uprising of guerilla goodness, Boom Boom! developed acts of kindness cards that not only offer educators an exciting method for teaching kindness, but also encourage kids to perform kind acts intentionally, and regularly!

Most people are aware of the typical forms of bullying – after school playground conflicts and lunch money theft – often made light of in films or on TV. Yet, bullying comes in many forms of physical maltreatment, and more often as psychological abuse. Having an entire school community stand united against bullying is likely to be the best deterrent, but with the right tools, one brave individual can also make a lasting difference.

Boom Boom! Cards’ Teen Deck is one such tool. For those ready to take a stand against bullying, Card #26 provides a great start, “The next time it’s necessary, stand up for someone who is being made fun of.” Yet, cracking jokes at someone else’s expense isn’t the only type of bullying found in schools. Social isolation and peer pressure are also prevalent. These types of group bullying can be confronted by a simple act of kindness like the one on Teen Deck Card #18, “Ask someone who is alone at lunch or break to join you.”

To extend the efforts against bullying, professional staff in the school community can take a vested interest in making a positive impact on students’ behavior by teaching kindness lessons via acts of kindness performed on a regular basis. These acts should showcase peer consideration and emphasize teamwork among one another. In addition, trained staff should be accessible to students in need of assistance, to include bullies, as they often struggle with confidence issues or challenges in their personal lives.

The Teen Edition of Boom Boom! Cards can also help to reinforce a school’s effort at home. For example, Teen Deck Card #6 aids in communication, “When your parents or guardians ask, ‘How was your day?’ actually tell them,” however, parents need to make time to ask the question and to listen very closely, as a child may try to express trouble in school in an indirect, discreet manner.

Boom Boom! Revolution is proud to work with educators and parents to give kids the knowledge and courage they need to not only stop bullying, but to prevent them from becoming a bully themselves. With proper guidance and support, students of all ages can become Boom Boom! Revolution Agents of Altruism, intentionally performing acts of kindness wherever they go!”
