JAKE AND THE NEVER LAND PIRATES- New Disney DVD and FUn Pre-K Party!

Yo Ho Ho!!!
Jake and the Never Land pirates is a new show on Disney Junior, the new portion of shows on Disney meant for the little ones.  This particular show follows the adventures of Jake, Izzy and Cubby, parrot Skully and their boat, Bucky as they solve puzzles of the pirate variety and find hidden treasure.  Before we start getting nervous about pirates being “bad guys” and teaching bad values, worry not, dear reader!  These pirates are, as Little Man puts it,”Good Fun Guys”.

I also enjoy the Never Land Pirate Band performing, “Pirate Party”.  There is something special about a group of grown men dressed as pirates prancing about and playing music about Never Land.  Check out that and more here.  LOL

We had a “Pirate Party” at the Pre-K today, and the kids had a blast!  They dressed like pirates, watched the new DVD, Jake and the Never Land Pirates: Yo Ho, Mateys Away! which comes out Sept 27, and had some pirate snacks while listening to the cute soundtrack.

The kids knew more about the show then I did, LOL, and were excited to see the DVD and dress up.  We had a fun-filled morning, and I had a few extra minutes to spend with each kid do do a complicated project while the DVD was going- YAY PIRATES!!!!   LOL- bonus for the grown ups!

DISNEY JUNIOR’S #1 SERIES JAKE AND THE NEVER LAND PIRATES” RELEASES ITS FIRST MUSIC SOUNDTRACK & DVD

ALBUM SET FOR RELEASE SEPTEMBER 20
DVD SET FOR RELEASE SEPTEMBER 27

BURBANK, CA, July 28, 2011 – A new soundtrack and DVD inspired by Disney Junior’s #1 series Jake and the Never Land Pirates, are planned to set sail this September with Walt Disney Records’ album release of eighteen hook-filled songs from the series on September 20 and The Walt Disney Studios “Jake and the Never Land Pirates: Yo Ho, Mateys Away!” DVD release featuring seven episodes from the series on September 27.

Jake and the Never Land Pirates is cable’s #1 series among Boys 2-5 and is on track to be Disney Channel’s #1 preschool series ever.  It is the most co-viewed series among all Disney Junior and Nickelodeon series, with 47% of Moms watching with their preschooler.  A music-filled interactive treasure hunt, the series introduces a crew of kid pirates – leader Jake and pals Izzy and Cubby – and follows their Never Land adventures as they work to outwit two infamous characters, the one and only Captain Hook and Smee, from Disney’s classic “Peter Pan.”  Every episode features the animated Sharky and Bones characters as they pop up throughout to perform original pirate ditties, and each episode concludes with a live action music video featuring The Never Land Pirate Band.

About the Album Release:Written and performed by Loren Hoskins and Kevin Hendrickson, a.k.a. Sharky and Bones of The Never Land Pirate Band, the album features 18 swashbuckling tracks sure to thrill any young pirate.  Also included are downloadable activities and games to plan the perfect pirate party, a Sing-Along version of the show’s theme song and a bonus track from a future episode. The deluxe edition includes a pirate bandana.  The album arrives at stores and online retailers September 20.

The album features a variety of songs that kids and parents can enjoy together. Songs include the kooky, comical “Hot Lava,” “Aw Coconuts,” “Pirate Password,” and the arrrghhh-rated “Talk Like a Pirate.” Some songs refer to popular characters in the show, such as “What’s Cookin’ Smee,” “Captain Hook (Is A Cranky Crook),” “Tick Tock Croc” and “Bucky’s Shanty.” Others capture the island spirit of Never Land, such as “Castaway on Pirate Island,” “Shipwreck Shuffle” and “Never Sky,” as well as the “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” theme song. All songs can be heard in episodes of the show.

Portland, Oregon-based Hoskins and Hendrickson have been creating pirate rock music for kids of all ages for more than a decade. The duo produced four previous children’s albums and even led their own pirate band.  The pirate rockers also provide the musical score for “Jake and the Never Land Pirates.”

The Jake and the Never Land Pirates soundtrack will be available wherever music is sold on September 20. Daddy’s Corner- Robots, Anyone? Review and Giveaway #CleverRobot #spon

Mechatars

Daddy here- since this is a mega-ultra-super serious man topic, I have taken it from my wife.
Now.  I would like to talk to you about something serious for a moment.  This serious topic is Robots.  Robots are going to take over, and it is going to be soon.  The next step in this evolution of our robo-overlords will come in the form of children’s toys.  These toys are called Mechatars.  Mechatars are/will be this season’s most wanted toy, thus invading living rooms and computers everywhere!
These crafty robots are not only remote controlled but are also members of a robust online gaming community.  Your battles effect both your robots physical form as well as its digital form.  This may be the only way to save humanity from the coming Armageddon.

Sorry I couldn’t help it these robots are so neat and have some very very smart features it is almost scary thinking about what they could do with just the spark of reason.
Mechatars are robot warriors that fight in both the physical world Earth, via a remote control and also online in the Mechaverse, via your computer, the internet and some cloud computing.  The interesting part here which differentiates Mechatars from other toys lines with online components is they are connected.  Your child will train their robot in the physical world then complete missions and battles in the online world.  All the while transferring experience between the two and evolving and personalizing their robot as they progress.  Upgrading and powering up your Mechatar is done in BOTH the physical world via purchasing of special weapon attachments as well as the digital world via leveling up and battles.  Upgrades in either ‘world’ effects the other, seamless integration.

The Mechatars also interact with one another.  I like toys that actually get kids to play together in real life, I feel there is not enough face to face interaction between people in general right now.  It is nice to see a toy line which is so technologically advanced yet still sees the importance and fun of face to face play.  I also like the responsibility the makers of Mechatars have taken in the digital world.  They have a special note to parents about the product by mostly this note pertains to their children’s safety online.  Nicely done Bossa Nova Robotics.

Here is some general product information for you-

Mechatars are a new, interactive play experience iLove Robots call “blended reality.” Brand-new and launching this fall, Mechatars combines the best of online gaming and RC robotic toys by connecting the physical world and online world through cloud computing.

Technology: Even young kids expect a high-level of tech sophistication and Mechatars meets them where they are playing (perfect for ages 6-12)

Two Worlds of Fun: Accept missions in the physical world to traverse the terrain and then continue to battle it out online using strategic tactics to earn points to upgrade your weapons across the Eight Elements in the Mechaverse

Value: Parents love the value of our affordable price point AND the significantly extended play

Cherry Apricot Crumble Bars

If you like Cherry Pie, you’ll enjoy this sweet treat by far. I’m not a Cherry Pie fan (gasp, I know) but I still make them for several people. These bars will be a great addition to the Fall line up at our house. If you cut them in smaller pieces you can convince yourself they will last longer , but I doubt they will. This recipe makes 1 dozen , which may or may not include the two I taste tested just to make sure they were good enough for the kids. Someone’s got to test them, might as well be me! Found this from an old issue of Taste of The South.

Ingredients

3 cups quick cooking oats
1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
½ teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
¾ cup butter, melted
1 (21 ounce ) cherry pie filling
2/3 cup chopped dried apricots

Directions. Preheat oven to 350F. Line a 13x9inch baking dish with foil, making sure you have it going over the edges of the pan (this way when it’s completely cooled, you can lift the bars right out by the foil edges. Can someone say easy clean up as well? See it’s already a winner)
Combine in a large bowl, the oats, flour, sugar, baking soda, salt and nutmeg. Add the melted butter and toss it around till it’s combined. Reserve 1 cup of the mixture and set it aside, this will be your crumble topping.
Press the mixture into the prepared pan. Bake at 350F for about 12-14 minutes until it’s set.
In a small bowl combine the cherries and dried apricots. Spread the fruit over the crust making sure to cover it all. Sprinkle the reserved 1 cup mixture over the fruit and bake for about 30-35 minutes or until slightly browned. Cool completely on a wire rack before you remove it from the pan.
The sides may stick a little, but pull the foil back a little before you start cutting them into squares.
Enjoy!

This is a guest post by Melanie from My Side of Life– who ALWAYS makes me hungry!  She is an avid gardener as well- so if you like to bake and you like to garden, her site is one for you!  🙂
Happy baking!  (and I want some missy!!!! LOL)
