Rock N’ Learn DVD Review and Giveaway

In the Pre-K, sometimes we get rainy days, where I will occasionally put on a DVD to entertain the kids a bit and break up the day when we can’t go outside. There is only so long kids will sit for projects and work-time! 🙂
One of the best places to look for educational and fun DVDs is Rock ‘N Learn. They offer quite a bit in the way of kid’s DVDs, all of which are education based. Music is used to help kids learn, which the kids enjoy. If the kids have fun and enjoy it, they are more likely to learn what is being taught to them, and retain the information.
One of the DVDs that we have used was “Human Body”. I used this DVD during the week that we were discussing and learning about- aptly- the human body, lol. But I have put it on since then, at the request of the kids. On rainy days, I give them the options, and they choose what they like. If they CHOOSE a learning movie?  Do I really need to say anything else? 🙂

Here is a bit more information on “The Human Body”
“This entertaining approach to the human body engages young, inquisitive learners, while the depth of material gets older students ready for tests. Join Kevin and his friends Marko and Bailey for an enlightening adventure to explore the skeletal, nervous, muscular, circulatory, urinary, respiratory, and digestive systems along with the five senses. Clear explanations, beautiful science models, and amusing animations make this DVD perfect for the classroom and home. Meets the National Science Education Standards.”

You can buy all sorts of fun and educational DVDs and CDs here!

Win a Team UmiZoomi Pre-K Math Kit

This is going to be Pre-K week on the birthday bash!  OKOK, toys too- but the focus will also be on learning  🙂
I am including all sorts of fun learning things that I LOVE for the kids at my Pre-K, and Little Loves as well!  If he didn’t love it, it won’t make the cut this week, because this bash is ONLY for fun things that Little Man loves!  (and alert?  He wants mommy to give him a new name- he says he’s not little anymore- SOB- so he I need to call him something else.  Just as well, it was too generic anyway, LOL.
OK, back to the review!  HA!
So, you know the new show on Nickelodeon, “Team Umi Zoomi”?  It’s a very cute educational show for young children.  With this PreSchool Math Kit, you will give your child the math skills to get them ready for kindergarten and even beyond, giving them a firm ground on which to build on.  Solving these fun and cute math problems not only boosts your child’s math skills, but they are going to have fun while learning!  (Shhh, don’t tell them!)  They will also get the “Keys to Umi City”, LOL.  By the way?  There is some “green” and environmental stuff going on in there- such as recycling bin placement (which is object recognition and grouping skills) cleaning up the park, etc.  YAY for that!  There is also measuring, weights, shapes- not just your average PreSchool kit.  I like the variety.  And your child may be more apt to try it, and want to do it, since they will know their buddies from the TV show they like already!
You can get these kits both online and at Toys R Us.

Here is a bit more information for you-

“Underscoring Nickelodeon’s commitment to provide preschoolers with highly engaging programming and products that promote social and cognitive development, the Preschool Math Kits are the first consumer products being introduced from Team Umizoomi. Beginning July 1, the Team Umizoomi Math Kits will be available exclusively at nearly 600 Toys”R”Us stores nationwide.  Additionally, the kits can be purchased online from Nickelodeon in mid-July.
Team Umizoomi Preschool Math Kits includes the following:
  • 48-page workbook that amplifies the curriculum covered in each episode, setting up problems and providing opportunities for practice and repetition
  • 24-page storybook that invites kids to join Team Umizoomi on a math adventure
  • 24 Mighty Math Mission Cards – portable cards that provide math-based challenges for kids
  • 48-page activity book that reinforces math skills through simple games and activities
  • Team Umizoomi episode on DVD

Win Dinosaur Train Educational Toys Prize Pack!

Mini Projector

My Little Man just loves Dinosaur Train!  And Uncle Milton makes some really cute, science and discovery based toys that are both super fun and will teach your kids!  (Shhh!  Don’t tell them!)
My sweet boy had so much fun with these toys- I have to tell you, the Hatchers! and the Mini-Dino-Projector (flashlight) were his total favs, but don’t count out the Dino Poop or the Dino Tract Discovery Pack!

The Hatchers! were super fun, and a cute twist on those little sponges that you put in water in capsule form- you know, they grow into little shapes.
This was so much better!  Not only was it a fun friend from the show Dinosaur Train, but it really did come out of the egg.  Tiny was really well done, and started popping out of her shell after just a few hours.  Then it kept breaking off, until she was all out.  She grew bigger and bigger in the water, and grows to 4 times the “dry” size.  Once out of the water, she started to shrink.  When totally dry, she became smaller then the palm of your hand.
The Dino Track Discovery Pack is adorable- whose tracks are these?  Buddys, Tiny’s, or Tank’s?  Learn about the dinosaurs that made the tracks as you go along and try to figure out who made them.  There is a surprise at the end, as well!

Let your kids play with poop!  LOL  I’m just kidding- it’s not real poop!  It’s pretend Dino Poop– and even though that sounds really gross, it’s also fun and funny.  Its just dough- but you can learn what the dinosaur had for lunch- is it a carnivore, omnivore, or herbivore?  (and look!  you can also expand your child’s vocabulary!)
The Mini Dino Projector was one of Little Man’s favorites, and he has so much fun with it. It has 6 interchangeable disks,  that show different dino scenes.

Have fun with Buddy and Tiny as you project them on you wall with the Mini Dino Projector! Project T. rex and Pteranodon footprints on your floor.
Even surprise your friends and family with the big dinosaur image. And use the train image to take a ride on the Dinosaur Train!
Little likes to “scare” mommy with the dinosaur images- they creep up on me and bite me, its oh-so-scary, and makes Thor and Cooper ride the Dinosaur Train shadows with the dinosaurs.  My kid, what can I say…..
You can buy any of the above mentioned toys here for your child!

So- Here is Prize Pack #1 for you!

Most of you know that I am a tried and true hippie-chick, and that I spent years volunteering overseas, and and am active now locally.  I truly feel that you need to walk the walk, and be the change you want to see in the world.  I try hard to pass this on to my kids, and to the kids in my classes.  It is really refreshing to see a product that is not only well made, but helps kids learn about others, other cultures, and learn empathy and social responsibility.  Kids love to play with dolls, this expresses their loving and caring natures.  This will take that one step further- and teach them about other cultures and helping others.

(Your purchase will also help children- doesn’t that help you decide which doll to buy?)
You can follow  Hearts For Hearts Girls on Facebook to keep up with all their news.
These are nice, pretty, well made dolls- but more then that- they are for a good cause, and they will educate your kids in several arenas.  For me?  Best dolls ever.

Disclosure: The Hearts For Hearts Girls doll, information, and coupon have been provided by Playmates Toys through MyBlogSpark.

Growums- Review and Giveaway! (gardeneing with your kids)

So we just set up our Growums garden.
Of course, we decided to get the kids involved in the gardening, as usual!  Both of them love veggies and we always have a least a few plants growing over the summer.  In the past we have tried many different plants, hot peppers, eggplant, green beans, corn, lettuce, tomatoes, herbs, etc.  We have found what works best and found a fun way to bring the whole family in on the fun this year.  Growums!  They not only give you starter packs and seeds, but also they give you  fun charactesr and something friendly with the gardening, while keeping it exciting and current, by including an online tracking mechanism. (So cute- you have to see it- and they send you little reminders via email to check your gardens, LOL.)
Growums are sold in gardens, there are quite a few, including the Salad Garden, Herb Garden, Taco Garden, Ratatouille Garden, Stir Fry Garden and Pizza Garden.  Each garden includes everything you need, except water and a nice hole in the ground.  They include seeds and coco pellets, ‘baby plant beds’ as Little Man put it.  You start out germinating the seeds in the coco pellets then as they grow you plant them and track your progress with their website: http://www.growums.com.  It’s a good idea and not only gives kids a better understanding of plants and growing, but also of how much work actually goes into dinner.  It even gives them a sense of accomplishment when they first see that seed sprout and I am assuming when take that first bite of a fresh vegetable they helped grow!  Last Earth day we planted a corn kernel for each, one corn made it- one, not so much.  But we did get one ear of corn and the kids would go nuts checking on its progress everyday, BEGGING to eat it everyday.  When we finally picked it they absolutely loved it, as if it was the best corn they had ever eaten according to them.  I am hoping for the same reaction this year but in a more pronounced manner and a more hands on approach.  Last year the kids planted the kernels and other fully developed plants, and we watered, weeded and fertilized the garden.  This year the kids are involved in all aspects, so they should also learn put in effort, get out fun. 🙂
Growums is a great idea because not only is it a gardening set but also a learning experience.  The kids learn about plant biology, farming (in a very very small scale), food and cooking, hand eye co-ordination and of course quality time maintaining the garden.
One of you can win from Growums!

Playskool Alphie Data Bots – Maestro-Bot and Deci Bot

Playskool’s Alphie Bots are such cute, cute little buddies!  Everyone should have a friend this cute.
Maestro-Bot is great for the music lover, and has been a fast favorite of my son and his friends at the Pre-School.
He is not only a great buddy for your kiddo, but will help them learn as well  🙂  Your child will be learning while playing (shhh! don’t tell them!) all about music.
“This little robot figure has all kinds of musical fun to share! Your child will use the MAESTRO-BOT figure’s colorful keys to match the notes and play Three Blind Mice, Twinkle, Twinkle or Mary Had a Little Lamb. This on-the-go buddy even features three modes of fun: Explore Mode, Find It Mode and Song Mode so that your little one can discover the joy of music in three different ways! Let the fun begin! Figure comes with instructions. Includes 3 “AAA” batteries. Ages 3 and up. “

My son (age 3) just adored it!  The kids at the Pre-K can’t get enough, Maestro Bot and his “brother”, Deci Bot come to the school at least twice a week since we got them.  Deci Bot, Maestro’s brother (because they have the same last name of “Bot”, you see- the kids informed me of this  🙂 )  teaches the kids counting and numbers.  He adds and subtracts as well and he uses his colorful fingers to illustrate his words.
“This little robot figure has all kinds of counting fun to share! Your child will use the DECI-BOT figure’s cool keys to practice counting and count along as this pal’s fingers light up. This on-the-go buddy even features two modes of fun: Explore Mode and Find It Mode so that your little one can discover the joy of numbers in two different ways! Let the fun begin!

Figure comes with instructions.
Includes 3 “AAA” batteries.
Ages 3 and up.”

These little robots are really cute, super fun, and priced right.  If you can find a fun educational toy that kids actually LIKE that is priced for around $20, that’s a good deal in my book.  We bought Deci Bot for one of the kid’s  birthday’s last weekend (Deci was his favorite).  Now there is another “Bot” family member coming to the school every once in a while, LOL.
Happy robo-learning  🙂
